As did many fishermen this weekend, we headed into Algonquin Park for some spring trout. This time we went for the weekend so we had the time to portage into some remote lakes in search of bigger fish...

The portage was brutal but the destination was nice. The weather was spectacular. Sunny and warm.

First some results, this brookie measured 21 inches. I didn't have my scale so I didn't weigh it. This fish hit in 2 ft of water on a K8 size quikfish.

Another pose, same fish.

yes, we ate it, delicious ! This is before the fillet operation.

The other highlight was floating over schools of lake trout (10 or so fish) in less than 10 feet of water. You could see them plain as day but they would just swim away as you passed over them. It was pretty cool watching these fish under the canoe. None of these fish were nice enough to bite our lures.

We had a blast. No bugs either !!! Go soon, with this heat, the blackflies will be eating you alive sooner rather than later.

John

Very nice male Speck! 21 inches is three pounds a little later in the season. That fella was a bit hungry from the winter still!

Good job pal!

When I first looked at your pic, I thought that it was a small laker.

Congrats on a real nice brookie. Razz
