My wife and I spent a couple of days in Algonquin park. We went in at Canoe Lake. This lake is only one portage in from the portage store which should narrow down the search. To be honest, I didn't expect the fishing to be that nice, so close to the major entrance. The technique I used was to troll a 2/5 oz little cleo 50 ft behind a 1 1/2 oz lead clipped to the line lowered to 40-50 ft.
My wife was nice enough to let me troll a line behind the boat as we canoed around. Lucky for me, I caught two lakers in about an hour. Both were about the same size.
This is the nicer pic, and the second fish I caught.
The first fish was an "in the water" release with a twist of my pliers.
We had some nice scenery too
and the obligatory algonquin moose sighting.
I also caught an assortment of Smallmouth and some perch, and a few sunfish. No brookies were found.
John

I didn't really try for brookies as the particular lakes were listed as having small populations or none at all.
We did fish some creeks while exploring but i only caught chubbs. |
