Re: New to Ottawa Fishing

Muskrat has rainbow smelt. I've personally never targeted them but we get some incidental catches. I know guys target them there as my dog always snatches a couple from unsuspecting anglers. That's good to hear. What I recall there is groups of shacks out in the big water. Things would be quiet unt...

Re: New to Ottawa Fishing

Gidday lad and welcome to the forums. There used to be a good smelt fishery on Muskrat Lake up at Cobden. To be honest I have no idea what it's like anymore, perhaps some other members here can chime in. Most folks go up there for Lake Trout.

Re: Looking for Info on Simcoe

I would advise you to go over to OOD and do a search there. Lots of folks there who fish Simcoe and plenty of posts asking for info same as you. https://www.oodmag.com/community/forum.php

Re: Clayton Lake

I haven't been out there but I sure can't see there being any issues. There is plenty of ice everywhere now.

Re: Shirleys Hardwater Decline

I've tried to get to that red zone, but not nearly enough ice the last couple years for a, but there. Probably 6 inches at best (you still see some guys drive there). Great for pop ups though! I find that a bit odd Steve. I don't recall there ever being an issue with ice on the inside edge of that ...

Re: Horne, Bower, Wood or Park Lake ice depth ?

Plenty of ice most anywhere now. Shouldn't be a prob unless there are springs to worry about. Making real good ice now with the snow cover gone.

Re: Shirleys Hardwater Decline

Keep at them Tim. I should have reminded you earlier in the fall but if they can do anything it will be a big help. It wont take them long to move a few boulders with the right equipment. Plus if you can somehow bring a safety aspect into the situation it could help your cause. Good luck.

Re: burbot/ling......where and how?

Yep, caught lots in Shirleys, usually after the Walleye bite has slowed right down. Not always though as I caught a 5 lb one night. Released it, 10 minutes later got another bite. Heavy fish, figured it was a Ling again so I wasn't even careful pulling it up and surprise, it was a 26" Walleye. ...
