Re: New to Ottawa Fishing

I did a quick google search because I had never heard of (or paid attention to I guess) Rainbow Smelt. It looks to me like there are a few areas that have them but they are not native to our area. I am sure you can find other smelt but from what I read, it seems like the St. Lawrence and its water s...

Re: Renegade Bass Academy: Big Rideau Edition

Chevy,

If you’re being serious, there are more than enough guys with TBD looking for partners on that list. I could think of a few you’d have a blast with.

Re: Renegade Bass Academy: Big Rideau Edition

Nice to see that people who participated in events last year can attend. I hope to make it out to this one. The two I went to last year were very informative.

Re: Boats? What do you drive? Im Looking for a new one

IMO, you really can't go wrong with the two top boats you have listed. I don't know enough about G3 to provide a positive review of them but I do not think they are in the same league as Lund and Alumacraft. Ed is correct in that Pirate Cove is a great place to deal with and they will take care of y...

Re: Off-season gear-up: looking for advice on baitcasters

The 200i was a fine reel and if you can find one, will probably be on sale since the Curado K replaced it. From what I have read, the K has been well received in the fishing community and has been said to be the netter reel of the two. This is of course just from review material I have read. I have ...

Re: Balsa and other wood crankbaits - Who uses them?

Steve, I have found a few custom builders that have exactly what you are looking for. They are promoted on Facebook mostly but I had asked this question within another forum and got some really good replies. I just figured if there was somewhere local that was doing it, I might as well try to suppor...

Re: Balsa and other wood crankbaits - Who uses them?

Thanks Steve, Wood cranks don’t seem to be as popular as they once were. Like I said above, I’ve got one I picked up in the bargain bin at Ed’s last year and never used. I’d like to pick up a few other options this off season to try out but they seem to be harder and harder to find around here. I’ve...

Re: Off-season gear-up: looking for advice on baitcasters

I’ll have to second Rick here with a spinning reel is easier to dropshot with but that’s personal preference. I’d look at getting a Curado 70 and a Curado K based on what you’re looking for. Both have great reviews and are built to last. Plus, Shimano offers a good cleaning service where they will r...

Balsa and other wood crankbaits - Who uses them?

Hey guys,

I've been contemplating getting into balsa cranks and have discussed this with a few of my friends.

Just wondering if anyone here still uses them and if so, what their favorite brand is. I currently have one Bagley's I totally forgot I bought but am looking for some other options.
