I soak the bearings for a total of 3 days in acetone, I've tried an ultrasonic cleaner, and after 1hr in the cleaner, there was still grease residue in the bearings. X2 to soaking in acetone. I’ll soak in acetone for 48+ hours. And shake the jar every so often. I’ll even change the acetone half way through. I’ve also removed the bearing shields to help get the grease out. I use boca lightning oil for bearings and penn reel grease for everything else. Pretty easy to find and order. But I’...

I add bearings where there are bushings, but for the rest of reel i use stock bearing most of the time. I make sure the reel gets a good cleaning yearly and if a problems occur i usually inspect and fix it right away When i did upgrade i went with ABEC-5's. And stainless, a lot cheaper. I just could...
