Joes Lake Campsite
Hi All I’m thinking of planning a simple 1 night camping trip to Lanark county, and I’m thinking of the small campsite on the point on Joes lake which I’m sure some of you are familiar with. It’s just west of the boat launch. Does anyone know if it is crown land and if it is bookable, or do you just...

Re: Crappie
I was out at an old Crappie haunt a couple weeks ago. We knew we wouldn't really be finding anything as we were only fishing from shore; we mostly were out to escape the city and enjoy the beautiful Lanark weather. No crappie action of course, a single 8-9 inch bluegill from shore but nothing else. ...

Ice...?
Hi all, I know it's a bit of a shot in the dark, but do any of you know if there's any ice left out on the lakes, say in the Lanark or Renfrew area? I know the rivers have been done for a while yet but I was clinging to a hope that there might be just enough ice on some of the lakes with not much in...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
Absolutely bonkers. While I seriously hope the forecast changes to something a bit more seasonal (I'm not a lover of an early spring) it's definitely a good idea to get the shacks off of the bay. Getting sick of these wacky ice seasons, so I may just have to move to the prairies lol

Re: Buying dead shiners
So if I read that last part correctly, does that mean that bait sellers will now be able to sell salted minnows as well?

Buying dead shiners
Hi all, I’m trying to figure out if there are any live bait sellers in the area who get rid off their dead shiners for cheap, as I’d like to salt some minnows. With a dozen medium shiners going for $15 most places, I’m looking to capitalize on salted minnows since they’re cheaper, and I often have b...

Foam flooring for ice camping
Hi all, I guess this is maybe a bit early to start talking about this, but I'm beginning to assemble some necessary items and equipment to make up an ice camping set-up. I've been doing my research and have ideas of a bunch of things I'd like to get or have already gotten, but I'm wondering if anybo...

Stocked Trout Fishing
Hi all, Looking to get a little stocked trout action this weekend since most other things will be closed. I fished both Peterwhite and Green lake once last winter, with minimal success, but I feel a little more confident about trying one of them again. I was wondering if anyone had anything to say a...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
They will sometimes even spawn under the ice but right now they will be staging just outside the lagoon in the back along those far shorelines. You want to be fishing in shallow waters close to shore with huge baits as the Pike try and corral baitfish schools against the shorelines. Do you mean the...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
Also, forgot to post about ice thickness. Ice is definitely still safe, the quality varied somewhat from spot to spot; some areas had almost all white and very little black, some had mostly black and very little white. About 14 inches either way, maybe a tiny bit less at our spot further out, which ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
Was out yesterday from about 2:00 to 8:30 pm. We fished about 250 meters out for a while in 9-10 feet with no luck except for a couple of stupid little perch, so we moved further and set up in about 13 fow. The bite was not exactly hot, no walleye, but a few pretty aggressive little saugers here and...

Re: Crappie Ice Fishing?
It's true, they aren't a great size anymore. A couple years ago I feel like the average size was a bit higher, still not great but we'd always catch a couple of 11-12 inchers. I've only been to Joe's once this winter since I find it has too many folks fishing it and I prefer quieter days on the ice,...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
I know. As someone who is strictly a walk-out-with-the-sled-and-never-drive-on-the-ice angler, the only thing I'm worried about is the ice thawing quicker and the season ending sooner, but I seriously feel for everybody who can't get their shack out. It really does suck. Hopefully next winter will b...
