Re: Bike Fishing

My son bought an old child carrier trailer to build a trailer to haul around a lawn mower last summer to cut grass around town. In his shop class he modified it to haul his kayak this summer so he could haul it to the river. It needed a longer pull bar and slight modification for a cradle to hold ka...

Re: big rideau water levels at boat launches

Launched beside the Galley in Portland yesterday. Zero issue for the big Lund. RJ Where is that RJ? Each fall I get frustrated with the Yacht Club launch. It seems to occur earlier each year that they drop the water level. This year is exceptionally low due to drought like conditions. I launched my...

Re: Multiple Open Seat Opportunities July 29 to August 8

Do you ever jig for laketrout? I have tried just about everything I can think of on Silver Lake, but with very little success. Have caught a couple ice fishing by jigging and caught the odd one doing long-line or down rigger trolling. I have tried jigging in summer but just can't get the hang of ho...

Re: Laker depth **update with pic**

In chatting with the trollers that pass me while on BR some of them are fishing 80 to 90 feet down with success. On the jig we are still getting them all over the column, this one hit 40 feet down over 105 this week. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x125/RJNBirdee/20160725_224345.jpg RJ I have ha...

There were lots of guys fishing for Lakers, but I didn't see anyone get into any fish.
I caught two Lakers on Monday.
Then I headed to launch to pick up my young lad and take him out for a couple hours of shallow fishing on Lower Rideau for whatever was hitting. :D

Re: Golden Lake

I rented a cottage on Golden Lake last summer, right at the mouth of the bonnechere and made several trips up the river. The area was good for bass and pike. I have heard there were walleye in Golden Lake but I did not try that hard for them. I heard that trolling with a bottom bouncer was the way t...

Re: So was it worth the wait?

Hooked up with my buddy Ian and headed to Lake Ontario in search of Smallies, our first stop was a bit of a bust so we were sent scrambling. Fun day. RJ When I saw you at Tim Horton's in Smiths Falls I thought for sure you were headed to Big Rideau for the Tournament but when I got off the water ar...

Changing line on downrigger

I have a 1060 Depthking manual downrigger which I bought used last year. I am going to change the line and am reading that braid line may be better than steel with less chance of crimping and breaking. Does anyone have any experience with the braid line and does it cause damage to the downrigger? Th...

Re: Engine mounted trolling motor

Hmmm. Before I commit to buying one I better make sure about those critical measurements. I think I saw on line that there needs to be 13" of water above the cavitation plate. I have a 17.5' Lund with a Yamaha 150. Lots of weight on the back but the batteries are beside the console. I got quote...

Engine mounted trolling motor

Does anyone have any experience with these?
I am looking at installing the MK 80 / EM on my 1700 Fisherman. I have a 150 VMAX on it, so I am hoping it will mount properly.
I already have a bow mount trolling motor but am thinking of the times I am trolling for lakers or walleye.
Thanks

Re: Any insight on cottage rentals?

We rented cottages on golden lake last summer: Mountainview Cottage Rentals. Very kid friendly beach. Lots of sand and shallow for smaller children. Not as much fun for the older kids but there were kayaks available (included in rental) for use which made it more interesting for my kids (15 and 16)....

Re: Shirley's bay 2016

Was out yesterday and it was a quiet day, only a couple small perch. Where is the west-end fishing community getting their live bait from? Have used Bits and Baits in Stittsville for years but unfortunately not anymore. Are people making the trip out to Manotick? There is also Baitcasters in Carlet...

Thanks for the info......can't believe someone drove on the ice!! :o  :o I walked away as he drove out and headed for shore as he was coming out.
