Re: Lake Trout Rideau Lake

Follow the other boats. LOL
Seriously though. Head out to the main channel in front of Murphy's point provincial park. There will be many boats out there.
I have had success between trout island and the north shore just trolling back and forth.

Re: Best Spring Pike Fishing Areas - Rideau System

I was shocked when I caught my first pike on a downrigger a few years ago.
I love fishing Big Rideau. When you get bored or stumped by one species there is always something that will bite.
I moved away last summer but will be travelling back often to fish for Lakers.

I was fishing out from Gideon Park near James island and the ice is good.
I was on 9-10" of black and 5ish white.

Re: Mississippi

There is a Municipal boat launch in Carleton Place at the end of Lake Avenue.

Alternatively there is a dirt launch on Concession Road 9A (Grasshopper point) off hwy 7 that I launched my deep v 18' Lund without issue. AWD or 4x4 would be good at this location.

Re: Military no longer require a license

So I have a friend who is active military born in Ontario currently stationed out of province where he has a house. Does he have to buy a license when he comes back home on vacation (leave ) or comes to Kingston or Ottawa on course? I would contact local MNR office but I would be inclined to say th...

Re: Drive on access

Hey Gord. There is a road plowed out at yacht club road. It goes straight out in front of the launch .. you will see the hut city out there. If you decide to venture toward stonehouse island be careful .. there is a big pressure crack across the bay. Some people have crossed it .. I am not one of th...

Re: Dock rentals

Depends where you want to fish and what body of water you want to be on. I can tell you from experience that the Marinas on Big Rideau (Rideau Ferry and Portland) are in the 1400-1600 range - that is for a 20 ft pontoon. White lake Marina seems pretty dang reasonable. 595 +tax for the season. https:...

Navionics WebApp has some areas mapped out of that stretch. Looks like it is mapped from billings bridge to the north end of Brantwood Park at Clegg st

Grasshopper Point Launch

I am thinking of heading to Mississippi Lake tomorrow and am wondering if the launch near Grasshopper point is safe or if there are shenanigans going on like those in Arnprior. I would use the launch in town but I know there is a bass tournament on Sunday so I am pretty sure the launch with jammed u...

Re: LF: 6 AWG Marine Wire

Depending on the cost at specialty stores it may be cheaper to buy 6 awg jumper cables. They can be purchased for 30ish at Canadian Tire. When I had to extend the wires on my trolling motor I went to a shop that installed winches on ATVs and got the 6 awg wire from them. I think they gave me 6' for ...

Re: Used boat taxes?

There are taxes on the transfer of a used boat. From the Transport Cda website. Do I have to pay taxes when buying a new or used pleasure craft? For the application of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) to the supply of a new or used boat, please contact the Canada Reven...

Re: Things that make you go HMMMM?

I went to their offices to renew my pass and the lady was none too happy to do it. Asked why I didn't do it over the phone, I said I don't doo that. I also said I went to their website and it left a lot to be desired, so basically I'm here, and renew my pass please. Ed I did the same thing. She was...

Re: Down rigging set up for a newbie

I have had really good luck with a jointed rapala minnow.
My setup is about 20' of flouro leader tied to my mainline and the rapala tied to the end of the leader.

I am sure the veterans will kick in with better techniques and setups, but last year was a good year for me.

Good luck.

Re: How is the Muskrat Lake Ramp in Cobden and Other Things

Thanks for the information about the launch.
A friend and I are looking to head out this weekend.
Is there a launch fee? Do you pay at the launch?
Thanks
