Re: Hunting the Marlborough or LaRose Forests
I've hunted the Marlboro but only for rabbits outside of the deer gun season. I've never seen a bowhunter there after the gun hunt however I have seen a few treestands hidden back in the bush. All the hunters I've met in the Marlboro have been friendly but that is fellow rabbit hunters. I've heard ...

Hunting the Marlborough or LaRose Forests
G'day, I'm looking for places to deer hunt. I was wondering what opinions were of the Marlborough or LaRose forests? Are they overrun with too many humans for a creditable chance at bringing home a deer? I have hunted WMU 66B in Kemptville. How does it compare to the the forests? Thanks for your help.

Catfish and High Water
With all the flooding, and the closest catfish haunts on the Ottawa flooded or washed out, I was wondering if anyone was having any luck so far this spring?

Looks good. Better use of your time than complaining about it being dark early.

Re: Brown Bullheads or Mudcats
By the parking lot. Do you mean the parking lot for the yacht club or the water treatment plant? Mud Lake definitely has bullheads, but they are very small and difficult to fish for kids because there are so many geese/ducks there, it can actually cause problems. Channel Cats from Deschene rapids ar...

Brown Bullheads or Mudcats
G'day, We called them Mudcats when I was growing up in Napanee. Their official name is Brown Bullheads. It is the fish that started me fishing. I am hoping they might win over my daughter. Would anyone have any suggestions for places to fish for Bullheads around Ottawa? I was thinking Shirley's Bay ...

Re: Lake Trout
BigC,
Lake Trout is one of those fish that I have yet to catch. Good luck!
On thing I have heard is that they come up in the shallows as the ice melts. If the water temperature is below 12C (52F) you might find Lake Trout.
So I have been told.

Re: Canal Walleye..
Piker, Unless someone else knows better than I, your questions are up for debate. I have been told there is about a hole near Pig Island that is deep enough for fish to over winter. Grant Hopkins, an Ontario Out of Doors magazine contributor, told me of this Pig Island spot. I don't know if he has e...

Re: Special material for tying flies
My daughter convinced me to get something like that at Michael's, the craft store.
It was a squishy ball with a glowing thing inside. I think it cost a buck.

OUCH!
I agree with gethooked. Yes, it is hard on his daughter and family. Yes, he will be disfigured and is lucky he is not dead. However, the number of safe handling procedures, laws and just plain common sense this incident breaches is beyond the imagination. The rifle was left loaded after a caribou hu...

Slug Gun options
Have you tried the managed recoil Buckhammers from Remington?
Definitely less recoil but they will still drop a deer. I took a 6/7 pointer a couple of years ago with those slugs.
A lot easier shooting than the 3.5 Federals I practised with at Stittsville.
