Nice report. Good to know there's hope in colder weather.

For what it's worth though I would lose the string net. If released, those fish are likely swimming around with a blanket of algae covering them right now, and will die soon. A rubber net is your best option.

That's right, Air Melancon. It was our fourth year with them. They're very good. Cabins are clean and have everything you need including running water, fridges, stoves, showers, lighting, etc. Boats are standard aluminum 12' or 14' w/ 9 HP Merc's.. only 2 years old. As with any outfitter it's the se...

Nice report. canoedude and I also fished Gouin this weekend past in Baie du Nord. Fish were still close to their spawning grounds and we did well. 110 fish between the two of us.. the largest fish were 14lb, 13lbs and a 10lb pike. We kept 6 six fish and the rest were released. Being back to civiliza...

Fished there Saturday.. pike could be found in 6-8 FOW where there were weeds. No weeds, no fish! They were hitting bucktails and rapalas on the pause in the morning. By afternoon the fish were more aggressive and eagerly taking mepps spinners.

Lots of boats out but from what I saw and heard, not very many fish landed.

I was in Hay Bay and picked up 4 small pike from 8:30-11:30 and only a handfull of perch from noon till 3.

I was able to make it down. It's a small cafe and while I think most people found a seat it in the end it was standing room only for a while. Seemed like a mix of tournament organizers, conservationist types, with the occasional fishing enthusiast thrown in (myself included). The presentation was ve...

Take a look at the portabote. Here's the website for the distributer in Ontario.

http://www.ontarioportableboats.com/

They are much stabler than a canoe or kayak and far lighter than a small aluminum.

If you spend some time Geocaching I guarantee you will be taken to some incredible places, close to your home, that you would have never known about otherwise. It's also a good activity to do with your family or significant other.. gets everyone out of the house and they'll love the treasure finding...

Ed, I placed an order with www.tacklewarehouse.com over the winter months and threw the glasses in at the last minute. It was the first and probably last time I'll give them my business. Nice website and a good selection of stuff I couldn't find elsewhere, but their billing precautions were extreme ...

I picked up a pair of solarbat high contrast yellow lenses before the season started and I've been using them ever since. They are great glasses and while they tend to make all colors pop, they show off greens particularly well. You can spot vegetation and weedlines a mile away.

I've used three ways rigs to troll for lakers out of a canoe with success. Ensure you drop it down slowly while paddling forward to ensure that the hook line doesn't get wrapped around the main line. The other option, that I haven't tried, but comes recommended by some research students in algonquin...

Canoedude and myself got back from Gouin (Bay du Nord) on Saturday after fishing the area hard for three days. Overall it was a blast. Day 1: Post thunderstorms and fish weren't active. Pike were in the backbays but would only follow a bait. Walleye bite was slow. Day 2: Sunny and no wind (huh?!).. ...

Yup, that was me and canoedude in the portabote. Your partner recognized me from work. We found it pretty tough as it's not an area we normally fish. The mouth of the river wasn't producing so we made our way over to the mouth of the miss.. and it wasn't giving us any fish either. Caught a few incid...

There were several boats of all shapes and sizes fishing the mouth last night. I think there was even one those boats that folds up nice like a suitcase or something. I'm not sure how safe I'd feel in that boat. I must be spoiled, but good to see other out there. Hey Bobber.. yup, you're spoiled :)...
