Magazine eyes

Through all those warm southwest winds this summer, I've been draggin a worm harness behind a bottom bouncer waiting for the right conditions to try some new techniques. Things set up nicely last week with a couple of warm and nearly windless days. One of the great things about kayak fishing is find...

I visited Kasshabog a few times about 20 years ago. It's a high boat-traffic Kawarthas cottage lake. Fishing was not too bad for SM and LM bass. It's also a decent musky fishery. Main lake points, rock piles and entrances to back bays were the prime spots for skis. Some good slop areas for LM.

I was wondering why there were a bunch of boats on the large sunken island last Saturday. Glad to hear everyone did well. Walleyes seem to be in all their regular summer haunts.

Great thread. I was just logging on to ask a similar question. In addition to some of the places mentioned, I came across the Pourvoirie Poirier site last night. Seems very accessible compared to other Quebec lodges. Has anyone one been there recently? I was also on the Ten Mile site noted by Wallyb...

I'm also a Black Donald cottager and my experience is that the walleye do mainly head upriver to spawn, although I think there must be a few creek and shoal spawners because there's always a few around in early June and the numbers increase throughout the month. Smallmouth spawn on just about all th...

Hi there, I have a cottage on Black Donald not far from the White Pines. There are a number of rocky shoals, mostly extending from points. Some are visible in low water, but most are subsurface at August levels. Cruising the the main channels is mostly low stress, with one exception in northeast sec...

It's going back a few years, but I used to have a cottage on White Lake. My neighbor would laugh at me and my buddies when we'd spend all of opening weekend on the water to catch 2 or 3 walleye. He'd drink all day with a couple of friends and then head out to mouth of Broad Brook at sunset. I don't ...

I did the trip up the canyon a few years back in late September. Smallmouth were concentrated where creeks flowed in and beneath the drip lines in the canyon.

The Lower Mad is up to class 4 whitewater during spring, early summer with 10 or more portages to avoid rapids -- probably not something you'd want to attempt with an injured wing. There is a route along the York River to Conroy Marsh (above the Lower Mad) described in Kevin Callan's Lost Canoe Rout...
