Bark Lake

Can't help you with spots but I drove highway 60 two weeks ago and the Madawaska was down 10' to 12'. Yes that was feet. You couldn't float a boat in that part of the Mad. I didn't see the lake itself but it had to be down big time as well. On the other hand it is a big deep lake in places if you ca...

Know your zones and regs.

Catching OS fish is one thing, targetting them is another and ignorance of the law is no excuse. But then what can you expect when I have an OPP marine unit asking me where my lifejacket is when I'm standing there in a bright orange floater suit and there are lifejackets hanging on the seat backs. S...

Big Perch

Wow, I spent 4 days fishing the Orillia Perch festival and never saw anything close to the size of those. I had a few in the 9-10 range and on at 11" but she was skinny.

Four days of perchin'

At this years sportsman show in Toronto I learned about a little event known as the Orillia Perch Festival. This year is the 29 annual and it runs from April 16 until early May. As luck would have it my wife had to work in Barrie last week giving me access to a free hotel room only a half hour drive...

Spinnerbait boxes

Plano also makes a flat box in the 3700 series that has room for 20 spinner baits. You can actually fit a few more in if you double up in a few spots.

I have one and it seems to do the job. It also fits my tackle bag.

Lebaron Sale

Hey Spence, what do you get if you buy 10 packages of a certain Gulp product?

I wish someone had mentioned this when I was in on Tuesday.

Spring Fishing

Got the boat out of storage on Saturday and started rigging it up today.

I'm heading to Lake Simcoe for the Orillia Perch Festival next week. See if I can find any of those jumbo 1lb plus perch, maybe even one of the 60 tagged fish for a $500 prize.

It'll be nice just to be on the water again.

Happy Isle - Algonquin

Not from personal experience but I have heard that EGB spinners work in the park.

Good luck.

Carp Show

Hey David, are you following me? Thanks again for the "personal shopper" assistance in Toronto. I can't wait to get those new frogs on the water. My buddy is still peeved that I grabbed that last Big Sexy frog but I'm sure it's on his list for Carp. I may have to buy it for him. I'm pretty...

What kind of line for frogs.

There was an article in the Winter 2010 issue of Bassman and 4 tournament fishermen were interviewed about what line they used in which situations. All 4 said the only thing they use mono for was topwaters because it floats. Frogs are definately topwater lures but that being said I tend to agree wit...

Flipping

For what it's worth, I bought a new reel for flipping at Paddletales and Ed spooled it with 70lb Samurai braid.

Don't forget to back it with a bunch of mono and given that you are flipping you really don't a 100 yds of braid.

Orillia Perch Festival

Thanks for the advice Essox. Sure it would be nice to get lucky and snag a prize but it's really all about the opportunity to get out on the water a little earlier than normal. I'll be fishing through the week probably the Tues, Wed, Thurs of that first week. Black 1650 Lund Rebel dual console with ...

Frogs

When in doubt just buy some of each. I throw Spros and like them just fine. I also have some Snag Proofs with the paddlefeet and I like the comotion they create. I have a couple of the River2Sea frogs Ed mentioned and I'm looking forward to seeing how they track in the water. I also picked up some o...

Prop Repair

I've dealt with Bells and they did great work on my skeg and prop. Perth is a bit of a drive from Embrum, you can also drop it off at Orleans Boat World and they will send it out. Somewhere in Gatineau I believe. Any good repair shop is going to balance your prop as part of the repair. Remember, if ...
