Ice Chisel
For Ice no thicker than 6" I would consider a handmade (welded) 3 tooth chisel. I've seen some that would cut a nice 10" dia. hole easy.

One thing I would consider would be some sort of plastic pipes that would be used as posts for a tarpaulin.
