Muskrats do like to chew on the cables. If you have left the boat at dock this is very common. You can try to protect the transducer cable by installing some kind of metal protector around it. A length of aluminum conduit cut lengthwise to form a "C" shaped cover is one method that works. ...

Freedom maps do not have any details for the water. They are Topo maps and only show detaled land mass. No contour lines, depth, or marker bouys. You can use Navionics maps in your H20c that have details for the various bodies of water. Just get the proper one for the area you will be using it in. H...

The Basemap version and a Gold Navionics Map will be the least expensive. If you get the HDS-5 Insight it is not that much more but the Insight mapping is primarily for the USA allthough there is reasonable data for BOQ and Lake Ontario...

The Lowrance Expedition C is a good choice, it's a bit less costly than the HuntC. The Expedition C has a Electronic Compass and Altimeter. It can use Topo maps as well as Navionics.

If you plan on mounting the unit on the bow I would suggest using a external antenna model because in many cases the display will be tilted back to provide a better viewing angle. Any of the Lowrance, Eagle or Humminbird Sonar/GPS combos will do what you want. They are capable of using the Navionics charts and they cover the lakes you mentioned.

You are correct, The LCX-25C is an earlier version (2005) of the current model LCX-27C. These units are very similar 480x640 resolution 7" Diagonal screen, they use the same transducers etc. Where they differ is that the LCX-27C utilizes the newer LGC-3000 GPS Module (the LCX-25C uses the LGC-2...
