Hey, I believe we met up on shore. Great report.

I've had problems with circle hooks before, too -- barbotte getting gut-hooked easily. Wrong kind perhaps?

Transducers: what is the range and angle of coverage?

This year, I have a brand new portable fishfinder unit (Eagle Cuda 168). It's been fun learning about it while on the water. ;) My question is: how do transducers project the signal down into the water column? While fishing in a small tinny boat, I had it set up correct and it ran fine. However I wa...

Wow, those both look excellent, Tip-up. I too struggle a bit with compactness - maybe I suffer from Angler's Clutteritis? :D If you're looking for a compact method to carry your tackle, depending on your needs, I recommend a couple of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Plano-3700-StowAway-Adjustabl...

Careful...

I once bought what turned out to be a knock-off rapala packaged in very genuine-looking Normark packaging. At a dollar store. It was only a dollar, but in any case, buyer beware.

Not to say that's what is happening here, of course. Sounds like a great deal if not!

Re: Can you identify these fish?

Fish Specimen #1 http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/redsupnorth/DSCI0023.jpg So what do you think? Has anyone ever caught or seen one of these fish before? This one looks like some type of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sculpin">sculpin</a> to me. I've never caught one that loo...

I learned: - Do not bother heading on to the ice in -20 weather. (I own neither hut nor fish-trap). - Panfish through the ice rock. - Downsize. My latest addiction is an ultralight panfish combo. - To keep the rod tip pointed down . This feisty two-and-a-half-pound* pike made quick work of my medium...

Excellent thread! 2008 started out really well for me - first fish of the year was my first-ever crappie. (I have to thank Tip-Up: until recently, I have had virtually no panfish experience. I did a search on ice reels before buying my first combo, and stumbled upon <a href="http://www.fish-haw...

Great idea (though I can't take part).

I don't make my own jigs (yet) but am interested in doing it someday. Is there a big start-up cost involved?

John, You should be able to find some spots there. There's a dock that's often populated by pan-fishers. Given the low water levels at the moment you probably have lots of space in that area to wade, too. The area directly in front of the park is mostly very shallow, so I recommend weedless rigs of ...

Jughead, welcome to fish-hawk. Sorry to hear about the hook embedded in your neighbour's daughter's foot. Irresponsible angling and littering as jughead describes (among other things, perhaps) set a bad example and can give others a negative impression of anglers. While this does not excuse outrageo...

Nodie, nice work. I'll echo the shore comments. I'm a career shore fisherman and you're puttin' me to shame here. :D thx for the reminder, Bobber Ditto that. I've held pre-release bass in the same way in the past. From now on I will hold them strictly vertically, or horizontally with proper support....
