Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

Met some really great dudes today, they put us on the fish. Turned a potential skunk day into a 14 fish day (2 walleye, 5 sauger, 7 perch). Hoping to get back out there next year with them!! ; )

Re: Live bait on the Ottawa River

Exactly - have to follow up with a reliable source. I thought boundary waters was shared waters. What this means is you can fish the Ottawa river anywhere (on either side), with either an Ontario or Quebec licence. If you have a Quebec license, that means you can fish 5 lines anywhere on the river. ...

NOT Big Bay

We fished Big Bay near the Red Buoy on January 22nd/23rd/24th. 7 guys fishing for a total of 140 man-hours caught 4 perch. We used pickerel rigs, jigs, different-sized buck shots tipped with minnows Swedish pimples etc. and were fishing from dawn to dusk. It may have been the weather (no snow coveri...

Thanks for the information everyone. Looking forward to my first trip to the BoQ this weekend, I'll post results when (if) I get back haha. Don't worry, we're going with a (hopefully experienced) guide.

Ice Thickness on Bay of Quinte?

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know the latest ice thickness on the BoQ? I'm lookin' to get out their this coming weekend.

The weather network shows -5 to -8 oC this week, so hopefully that will promote some ice forming.

Thanks for your feedback!

I've got one

Amazing. You can bomb-cast a heavy lure about a mile out, or flip cast with light lures. I highly recommend it (if you have the $$ to blow).

Hi Colby and Wayne, Here's a good website with places you can fish on the rideau river: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/2ColumnSubPage/STEL02_165650.html I'm relatively new to the Ottawa area, and haven't yet had a chance to try many spots, but I have had some success under the Lees Av...

no fish caught

Hey Guys, Ended up using a borrowed, dull auger to 'hand bomb' down about 12 inches (took me about an hour and 1/2, and 2 days later it still feels like my arms are going to fall off). With 2 more inches to go a nice man came over, feeling sorry for me, and drilled me a hole with his gas auger. I fi...
