UH, Pike love stick worms. Some places I fish my stick-worms (I use a lot of bass Magnet Quiver Sitcks and Yum Dingers) on a 50lb fluoro leader to keep the pike and muskies from running me out of hooks. Try yellow for northerns. My buddy got a walleye about 3 lbs last year on a 5" Yamamoto. I'v...

Warren, When you tie a drop-shot: Start with a palomar knot - http://www.bassnorth.com/content/columns/101/101-list.html *IMPORTANT* make sure you insert the line through the 'point' side of the hook eye when you begin. Tie the knot, when you're finished the point should ride upwards, help it along ...

Some guys will remove all the hooks from their baits and keep them all in a seperate compartment in the same box. Lures don't tangle, feathered trebles don't get mashed up and hook points are not dulled as easily. Of course them it becomes a bit of a chore to equip each bait with a set of hooks. But...

Reaper, A muddler minnow is a great streamer fly but spinning the bucktail muddler heads is not what I would call an easy tie for a new tyer. Try the venerable and time honoured Wooly Worm, which is a great all-round pattern for approximating large nymphs and aquatic adult insects (you can weight th...

In regards to line...I have heard also that because fluoro doesn't break down in UV light like mono, any lost or discarded line will remain in the environment and not break down. Same deal with braids and other superlines. This might be of concern to some. But we all know better than to throw old li...

Re: pike

Stories have been told of Bald Eagles DROWNING up there as when they hunt fish they dig their tallons into the fish and try to fly away with it.... what happens is often the fish is too large for the eagle to lift off, The bald eagle cannot let go of the fish because of the shape of their tallons, ...

Catching smallmouth bass on a small lake on a small island in the Pacific Ocean off the West Coast. :o :D

Two and three-pounders till my arms hurt. Wicked. Matching the 'Banana Slug' hatch.

J-fish, At the start of last season, I converted from keeping my plastic in their original packaging (I kept my supply roughly sorted by type in three mesh bags with drawcords), to plastic boxes, like the one pictured in this thread. Now I have two boxes for senkos, two for tubes, one for creatures ...

Dude, I wrote a novel for a response and then deleted it by accident, Doh. Here's the condensed version. Chandos...Kawartha Highlands. The City of Kawartha Lakes is the tri-cities of Bobcaygeon, Lindsay and Fenlon Falls. The Kawarthas is an agricultural lowland...similar name, different geography. T...

Pike are quite rare or non-existent in the main Kawartha Lakes. To the best of my knowledge they are only in the Trent R. on the South end of the Trent Severn Waterway and perhaps have migrated into Canal Lake from Simcoe in the west. The Kawartha's are the last place in the province I would send so...

RJ, Maybe my wording could have been better. I was raised and schooled in Scarborough. Perhaps the most culturally diverse group of communties in Canada. I have friends of all different complexions. I support Chinese-owned tackle shops in my community. I'm not a racist, and I'm not intolerant. What ...

I feel that this has been blown out of proportion when termed a 'racist' issue. I don't beleive that it is. I see a clash of cultures, one ignorant or indifferent of the other. One culture comes from a country of over a billion people. In Hong Kong Harbour, anglers line up shoulder-to-shoulder to ca...

Million Angler, Catch-and-Release Sermon

Never said it was a crime, only that in my humble opinion as a conservationist and smallie lover, keeping a healthy four pound bass is a shame. At that size she's probably a female, all set to replenish the stocks. Or, in this case maybe not. I never even fish the Ottawa, I live in the Dot. I ate a ...

Jasonb, yes I eat 3-4 pound smallies. Why wouldn't I? They have 3-4 times the meat a 1 pounder would. Slop, I just scrap a fillet off each side and toss the carcass. I leave the skin on. It's easier to dispose of a little skin than the whole carcass at home. Spence, I agree they taste no better and...
