Well, I finally gave it a try for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon. I might as well have stayed at home, 'cause I got skunked. I went with a number of different Wooly Buggers in a variety of sizes and colours. Even Todd's magic fly that did me so well over the summer couldn't entice a bite. I g...

Tip-up, Yeah, I did post some pics, but they weren't the greatest. There were a bunch of guys from Ottawa at Nangor at the same time as us. I think that some of them worked for Hydo. Sounded like they were having a great time despite all the t-storms and rain. Cyber, sounds like you might have been ...

My buddies and I held our "Big Stud Weekend" at Nangor in early June last year. The resort is first-rate. The cabins are clean, spacious, and fully stocked. We liked the place so much, that we're going back again this year. Some of the lads have been going there this winter for hard-water ...

It's an interesting technique. As to whether it's legal, I have no idea. There's something about it that makes me feel like it's wrong, but I can't say for sure why. I guess that it strikes me as being a form of lining and not really fly fishing. (not that I'm an expert by any stretch of the imagina...

Guys,

Thanks for the info and the links. Life keeps getting in the way of my fishing and other activities, but with any luck, I'll give it a try this weekend.

I'll post a report if I go.

Yannick. I once built a shack that was covered using aluminum printing sheets from a newspaper. They were, if memory serves me corrrectly, about 2' x 3'. I got them for free from the North Bay Nugget. Maybe you could pick some up at one of the local papers . The shed was mounted on an old pair of sk...

Sorry guys and gals.

This was a first for me. I just couldn't get over the size of that fish and had to share.

Big Fish Tale from the Winnipeg River

I received this in an email this morning. I can't vouch for the authenticity of the story, but boy, it this a big fish or what? This is the new record in Canada. He caught it on the Winnipeg River, by Seven Sisters, in Manitoba. Check this thing out. The last picture is unbelievable. This guy (in th...

I remember Dennis writing somethig about carp sending a chemical distress signal to the rest of the school. I'll have to remember that one. Q. "How'd you make out today Jerry?" A. "Not so good, there was some kind chemical distress signal in the water and the bite was off." Than...

Prairieboy: Is there a F-H discount on the dancing girls? If so, where do I sign up? Todd: Thanks for advice and Wilco on the CTC special. I should have fun with the 6wt and trying to get those flies into a 6" hole. I assume that I'll have to use a sinking tip? Come springtime, I should be a pr...

Flies and Ice Fishing

Have any of you fine fishermen used flies for ice fishing? I was thinking of tying up a variety of weighted buggers and jigging with them.

Any suggestions as to what might work? I'll probably just stick around Petrie and go for whatever's out there.

Happy New Year.

I took my kids out to Petrie the other day and found 4 old holes that only had a thin layer of ice over them. :D We used an axe and a steel driveway ice scraper to create a couple more holes. It took about 5-10 min to cut through 9" of ice.

Unfortunately, we got skunked :(
