I wasn't permitted to go near the channel as a young feller, my mother thought it was "dnagerous". Aside from carp though, it's mostly just pannies and rockbass now.

I use the zipper method too. Never any bones to worry about. I know there's a few that hate the subject, but same technique works for muskie too.

catfish, too bad you didn't catch many crappie. Good eating fish. Join the gang at Petrie this winter, good times there.

As for catfish, there's not shortage of them in the Ottawa river. Victoria is a popular spot for beginers and kids.

BigO, I woud have never thought to try that. Too bad it didn't work, it would have been a cheap dual option instead of purchasing a mast.
