Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Lenny now I’d wished I’d wandered over to say hi! I was out there east of you Sunday night. 2 perch and 3 walleye for me, stayed about half hour later than you did and enjoyed some final peace and quiet on the river! Jan 20 to Mar 3 - not much of a season but hope everyone had fun and caught some fi...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Smitty thanks for the feedback! Lenny I’ll let you know for sure if I’m heading out solo at all! Glad to hear some fish are being caught - and yeah - most importantly let’s hope for a cold snap!

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Won't be out today, but good luck to any who get out there. I've been out twice before things got wet, fairly typical, half decent bite around sundown =) Question for those night owls - I'm curious if you even have any sustained action after dark? PM me if you'd rather, I've just never fished much o...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Planning to head out tonight - will be travelling solo so likely zipped up in my eskimo tent but hope to see some activity and maybe a few fish on the bay! Good luck this weekend to anyone else heading out

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Thanks for the surface condition update! That's incredible. I made the mistake of trying a small lake in the valley Sunday morning. Could walk about 100ft at a time then had to stop the slush/snow was so bad. The wind must have really kept thinks swept off on the bay in places - that's VERY encourag...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Great job Fisherman!

How was the slush situation after all that snow?

Agreed I’m hoping it all freezes up hard this week!

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

To the owner of the little shack just sitting there on the bare rocky beach . . . The image of that shack sums my feelings up perfectly right now - sad, but hopeful! Hope to meet a few folks out there sooner (but safely) than later

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Hey all, been a while since I was on the boards much but had a renewed effort at Shirley's last year - and I'm sure ran into a few 'locals' in the process - looking to refine my tactics and have a good year this year once we eventually get some ice! (Records show my first outing wasn't until 20-Jan ...

Re: Shirley's bay 2016

Thanks for confirming my thoughts Smitty

timing just didn't work out on a weeknight for us leaving work/school/etc. but looks like Family Day the temps might moderate enough to give it a go . . . still got lots of minnows in the basement looking for a good home!

Re: Shirley's bay 2016

Nice sauger! Took my son out for his first night fish last night, but it was almost 6 by the time we made it out and got setup. We were W of the main group of huts but not a single bite, and by 7:15 we were packing it down . . . maybe we arrived too late? I know that side towards the range is shallo...

Re: Shirley's bay 2016

cool video, thanks for sharing! I'd imagine with the high water and lots of current, there would be a lot of "stuff" stirred up throughout the river . . . Was out last night 3-5ish with my little guy, got a small perch and a small sauger, we're planning stay later next time (maybe pick up ...

Boat project, where can I buy marine vinyl?

Have to replace the floor in my boat

I want to go the marine vinyl route instead of carpet, not sure who in town may sell it, any leads appreciated, already checked the Chandelry, no go.

Haven't started calling all the marinas yet, but doesn't seem like a standard marina item

thanks!

Thinking ahead, rod opinions wanted

Between hard-water trips it occurred to me i could "use" a new rod . . . for this summer, and I'm rather restricted by a few criteria, but have seen a lot of great advice and opinions on here, so thought I'd float the question: Looking for a jerkbait/topwater casting rod (to be paired with...

The MNR targets splake at lakes with perch quite often I was told, they love 'em. Generally I'd agree with the 10-15ft range, but the closer to deep water the better, just in case they decide to play laker that day . . . you may find them holed up down at the bottom of the drop, in-between shallow f...
