Re: speckled ideas
I challenged the Ministry about access to Peterwhite some time back. They sent me a map showing the only legal access. It's via Concession Road 6 off Tatlock Road. Go as far as you can in your 4WD truck and park. The rest of the way you have to use a 4 wheeler. Follow the Hydro line down to the lake...

Re: speckled ideas
I don't know if you realize it, but when you take the hydro trail into Peterwhite, you are trespassing on private property. I contacted Hydro years ago and that is what I was told. I wrote to the property owner asking for permission, but never received a reply.

Re: I was transferring gas
Your motor has a fuel filter which should be replaced periodically. It's not difficult. Look for a video on Youtube. I recommend using only fresh, high octane gas. If it's older than 2 or 3 months put it in your car. If your tank has debris in it, dump the remaining gas or use it in a lawn mower. Ri...

portable fish finders
I did a search on this subject in this forum and found a few posts, but nothing recent. Scarkners post was helpful. I guess the low priced yellow units coming from China are of limited value. You get what you pay for seems to apply here. Anyone buy anything lately that's worth looking at?

speckled ideas
Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for a water body for fishing speckled trout. The Fish ON-Line search tool sends me to several creeks in the Kemptville management zone. Not one of them appears to be worth fishing. Access points are few and far between. Another website tells me that the lands are...

Re: gear oil colour
Thanks for your comments. I use SAE 90 gear oil. No sign of water in the old oil or metal particles. I guess the gear box is just a dirty environment, and comparing it with used engine oil is comparing apples and bananas.

gear oil colour
I have a 50 hp Merc 4-stroke, a 1999. I replaced the gear oil last year and barely used my boat this summer. When replacing the gear oil again this week I was surprised at how black my gear oil was after so little use. Is that normal?

Re: How are you dealing with the Stay-At-Home-Order?
Thinking about going out and working a zone of the Clyde river I've never tried before. I suppose that would technically be in violation of the stay at home order, wouldn't it? Even though I would never be within 100 metres of anyone.

Re: Clyde River
I have fished various sections of the Clyde (although not for the last 3 years) and never once saw a trout. Fall fish and bass only. I came to the conclusion that the MNR was essentially feeding young trout to the resident walleye and bass. Hope I'm wrong about that. I'll check in another time to se...

Re: Cormorant Hunting Season Proposal by MNRF
I hope this goes through. We have seen a few cormorants on our lake north of Napanee. The bird clearly does not have enough predators.

motor and gear oil
I have a 1999 Merc 50 that I'm very happy with. I do the standard maintenance every year. This summer, for a variety of reasons, I've hardly used the boat at all. If the motor oil has 4 hours running time this season I'd be surprised. Should I replace the gear oil and motor oil anyway or would that ...

leaders: yes or no?
I lost a few lures to pike in Mississippi lake a few years back and started using metal leaders. It sure makes life easier when I want to switch lures. But it seems to me that my cast to strike ratio has diminished since I started using leaders. Is that usually the case or is it just my imagination?...

Re: Trolling motor battery question?
Another option for you to consider is a CTEK charger. I bought one at Total Battery in Nepean and I'm glad I did. Ask them how it differs from a conventional trickle charger.

Tetsmine, Moulton and Paddy's Lake
Does anyone know if it's possible to walk into any of these lakes? I would be carrying an inflatable boat and fishing gear so walking a reasonable distance is manageable. Question 2 is "Is it worth walking into any of these lakes". Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
