Re: Towey's Bayt and Tackle closing Sale

Just a reminder that Starting today until Saturday everything left in the store is now %50. There are a couple of Left hand trolling reels left and about 5 rods. There is still a number of soft plastic, spoons and crank baits. Line is picked through but there is still some left. Examples are Garry Y...

Towey's Bayt and Tackle closing Sale

It is with regret that I will be closing the tackle store in Arnprior at the end of April. My lease is up at the end of April and we have decided not to extend the lease. I will just be wholesaling bait(minnows, worms and Leeches) to my customers and no longer retailing bait or tackle. This week I h...

Re: Zone 12 Slot Size

I think a lot of people play dumb when you ask if they knew the slot size on the river from March 1st to June 15th. It has been in place for a number of years now. They aren't going to tell you they knew about it and kept a fish over the slot on purpose. What would you do if they said "Yes I kn...

I send all my Okuma service items to Rocky's in Orillia. You can probably call them and they'll just send you the part.

Re: Sunday ice fishing?

I wouldn't advise bringing kids on the ice on any lake/river yet. I don't think it is worth the risk to bring kids especially any bays on the river. Depending on how much snow we get it will not help the ice conditions. It will put pressure on the ice and bring water on top of it and you won't be ab...

Re: Hardwater has arrived

I ventured out on 3 ponds that I trap minnows on and there was about 2.5 inches of ice on each of them. They are shallow and the muck usually keeps the ice a bit thinner. I think I'll wait a few days before trapping them. I did go to white Lake and went out at the boat launch. It had a good 4 inches...

Re: trout stocking

Putting funds together to help the MNR stock the lakes yearly and also increase those numbers in all the lakes has nothing to do with the number of CO's and enforcement. Increased stocking would not require any increased enforcement and would be relatively easy to do. NY state has a large stocking p...

Re: trout stocking

Yes, I do enjoy ice fishing as well, there is just something about being able to have that opportunity in the winter. The system works they have just cut it back a bit too much. I'm not sure the reasoning for the stocking of lakes every other year. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense and it has allowe...

Re: trout stocking

I'm sorry but I don't agree to your points. These $$ are going to everyone not just those who are putting money in. They just get a bit of an advantage for a few days/week until word gets out. Quebec is certainly not better. ice fishing is a huge part of our country and to not ice fish then what is ...

trout stocking

Well I've mentioned a plan that I've been thinking of to a few people and they think it could be a great idea. looking at stocking lists from the last 5 or 6 years and you can see that the stocking of many lakes has been decreased by half. They only stock many once every other year and they have cut...

Re: Trout rivers near Arnprior?

%100 sure they were trout. It was up on a shallow flooded flat where they must have been feeding on bait. The fall is when they are really active. There was one day last fall I had at least 10 1/2 pound trout in one of my traps and another couple of large ones in the creek out of Quackenbush lake(an...

Re: Trout rivers near Arnprior?

there are lots of trout creeks. I trap minnows for a living and trap dozens of creeks and I've caught trout in my minnow traps in almost every creek. I get smaller trout in my traps but have seen larger ones sitting in front of my traps and swimming in the creeks, especially in the spring and fall. ...

Re: Parking Permits

Well this is a bit FUBAR in McNab. One of the stores you listed does not have permits and has never even been approached to sell them. If they aren't going to do this right and have someone at each boat launch collecting money then don't do it at all. Trying to cheap out and just make it a huge mess...
