Re: Clarification on patterns before & after Fall turnover
Lots of variables to turnover. Officially a lake isn't turned over until there is a constant uniform temp. At 39F degrees water is at its most dense state so it sinks but turnover will happen well before this temp and I find that wind plays the biggest factor because it mixes the water up way before...

Re: The Value of Large Walleye
I dont catch enough big walleye to make this discussion worth while but on big water like BOQ I let anything over 5lbs go. Not basing that on any kind of science just what feels right. Slots take the guess work out of it. I like the slot in zone 18. Z 17 put in a similar slot a while back and I have...

Re: Where can I get Auger blades sharpened
Buy a new set! This is my method! And it works out to be cheaper than resharpening I've tried to sharpen myself and I have taken them to a shop that does mower blades and end result was I wasted my time. I would be willing to bet more blades are ruined by dings, bends and rust than dulling due to c...

Re: New Cabelas Store
I don't disagree that the US selection is superior however once you factor in the exchange and brokerage the prices are pretty close for most items. The real pain is that for guns and ammo ordering from the US isn't an option. I find that if you are patience and know your price points you can get a ...

Re: Crappie Season
really tricky until the water temp warms and stays consistent in the shallows. Spawn happens in May (65 degree water)but they will be in shallow to feed a month before that, as RJ said 50+ degree will get them going. The problem is that 1 day of cold weather will push them back out deep. If you know...

Re: Whitefish on my bucket list...
Fishable populations? Debatable. RJ Thats the issue they are around but not in numbers where you will run into them by accident. Lakers are king in eastern ontario, they are the prized fish because it is actually quite rare to have lake trout in smaller back lakes this far south, so they are the fo...

Re: Fish not on regulations
I think it is just to keep the regs at a manageable length, I think there are something like 150 species of fish in On so they just identify the major ones.otownyaker wrote:Makes sence.
Guess them not haveing a limit make sence as to why they are not on the regs with just open all season

Re: Salted minnows allowed?
Salting is allowed and if you google it you can find some helpful step by step instructions with pics on how to do it. I have salted minnows in the past with success but the best thing I ever did was buy a cheap 10G tank with pump and filter and start trapping my own. Took some time to find a good s...

Big time, always causes a S#@tstorm this time of year on that board. Dont get me wrong never take quinte lightly but there are a couple guys on the board that amp up the drama to keep people away.

Doesnt matter much to me if they buy cabelas, I have no problem with either store. The only bonus as I see it is maybe BPS will finally wise up and follow cabelas lead and have a canadian website and distribution centre.

Re: Oh Joy Oh Joy
I understand the importance of releasing fish throughout the lake but I think we are splitting hairs here. The important thing is that proper care is being taken during the weigh process and that they are actually being released. I would rather have a live release tournament on my lake than the hand...

How's any bassboat tournament competitor different from the crazy amount of wakeboard boats that fly by you and leave a 4 foot wake? Or a 30+ foot Yatch on plane zigzagging on the rideau? Those things don't stop very quickly... Herds of Seadoos that travel all over the lake or those special ones th...

Re: Late/Second Spawn Bass?
Different groups of bass will spawn at different stages of the spring/summer (before during and after the ideal spawn temp). There is an early spawn and unless its an unusually warm spring these fry will have a very low success rate. There is a mid spawn where the majority of the fish spawn and will...

Re: Tube Jighead help.
Ive used mustad, northlands and a few other brands, I havent noticed a difference in hook percentage. Tubes have one of the highest hook up rates for me once I figured out a couple things. 1) have the drag set tight then loosen as you fight the fish. (lost a bunch of lake trout icefishing before I f...
