Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season

Are there any crappie or bluegills on Shirley's or Constance Bays? I'm looking for a spot other than Petrie - too many people there keeping every single thing they catch - drives me nuts and doesn't help the fishery. Hard to teach the grandkids to respect the resource when you see guys tossing 2&quo...

Re: WHEN SHOULD THE BULLHEADS AND CRAPPIE FISHING START

There was a by-law guy parked at the top of the hill, so we (I had my daughter and granddaughter with me) asked if we could fish from shore. He checked, and the order, or whatever, said the parks were closed to kayaking, canoeing, etc., but you could walk through, etc. He called a supervisor, and th...

Re: WHEN SHOULD THE BULLHEADS AND CRAPPIE FISHING START

Went to Petrie tonight, near the bait shop. Not a bite. I'm thinking the cold front screwed it up.

Re: How are you doing for walleye on the Ottawa this winter?

I was fishing Willow Street. Went out last night, but the walk was pure hell. Kept breaking through the crust and snow. About 6" of water on the ice, and the ice has started to soften and the holes are opening up from the bottom - 2 signs of Spring, IMHO. They are taking all the shacks off the ...

Re: Ling on or near the Ottawa

Thanks for the pic. How deep is the water you fish, and what type of structure?

That is the size I was after. We used to get dozens that size in the very early spring.

Re: Ling on or near the Ottawa

Thanks. When we used to fish for them intentionally, we would use a smelt on bottom. I may give it a try a little later on Walleye Bay at Petrie, fishing until well after dark.

Ling on or near the Ottawa

Anyone ever catch any good size (5 lbs+) ling on the Ottawa or near the city? I've caught several small ones while fishing for walleye, but never anything of size. They have to be in there. I'm not asking for a particular spot, but what depth, type of structure, etc. When I lived in NE Ontario, we u...

Re: Fresh Water Drum?

I've caught a few near Cumberland, while fishing from shore. They do put up a good fight. I actually looked up a recipe that claimed you could make them taste like shrimp. Well, maybe spoiled shrimp, but certainly not any shrimp I've eaten before.

Re: Ice fishing pop up tents - what’s your preference

I had the Clam for several years (sorry, I forget the model) and really liked it One of the hubs broke, I wrote them, and they sent me a few of them, no quesitons asked. My only beef was that for some reason, sometimes, it would be a momma-dog to fold up. Now, I have the big, insulated Eskimo. Easie...

How are you doing for walleye on the Ottawa this winter?

Just out of curiosity - how are you guys doing this winter on the Ottawa? My wife and I have been having a pretty slow year. We got a few, including 2 nice ones, but nothing near what we were getting previous winters, and we've been out quit a few ties. All the guys fishing around us seem to be doin...

Access to Petrie

Any idea as to when the construction at Petrie is supposed to be done? It will be a lot harder getting out on the ice if we can't cross the culverts. Or is there a way across? (I haven't actually driven down to where the work is being done.)

When do the channel cats start biting in the Ottawa, near the bridges/Victoria Island all the way down to the Cumberland Ferry?

Clam Ice shelters excellent customer service

3 winters ago, I bought a Clam pop-up ice shelter. This year, one of the knuckles on one of the hubs broke. I tried to find a replacement part here in Canada, but couldn't. I went to their Web site, and all I could find was a complete hub with poles. I figured shipping would be an arm and a testicle...

Fishing forpike from shore, East Ottawa

Hi all, first of all, I'm not looking for honey holes or hot spots. I don't do much summer fishing, and it's almost always for cats, when I do go out. My son and his wife are up for a week, and they'd love to go out and catch some pike. Size don't matter, but it has to be shore fishing. Are there an...

I have an older Coleman ultralight naptha stove (can't remember the model). I have a pack Shack 3, and I can heat it enough that except on the coldest days, I'm warm enough to wear just a light flannel shirt while I'm fishing.
