Zimbabwe lunkers

Awesome bass!

I didn't even know there was bass fishing in Africa. I did see an Izumi episode where he was bass fishing in Europe (I think it was Spain) so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Fish close to the dock first, in case the lunker is hiding underneath. So don't go stomping to the end of the dock to launch a huge cast into the lake, try fishing with a jig or if you prefer live bait a worm, leech or minnow at the dock's edge. Try a few spots before switching to casting further. S...

hooks

I was always taught to sharpen hooks, esp. after bumping rocks or hooking a few fish. I'm not always good about it, but I do keep a sharpener with me on the boat and touch up hooks when things are slow and I'm looking for something to do...

quick Gananoque Lake report

Joisey Joe, Thanks again for the info. Went to the lake last week and launched from Griffins. Didn't see the gentleman you mentioned, somebody else was there to take our $12. Had a fun day, though action was pretty slow overall. But we had fun exploring a new lake and I wouldn't definitely like to v...

New to the area myself and don't know any spots really, though I've heard about fishing at the warm water discharge at the plant, the causeway between downtown Kingston and the base, and Kingston Mills.

Good luck if you go, and would be great to see a report here.

trickle charging

That's a bit confusing, I thought it was okay to trickle charge a deep cycle battery??

I have one of those Motomaster chargers that's supposed to adjust the charge as the battery gets close to 100%.

lure

Don't know it, but very cool looking lure. I

I've found lures too on the riverbanks or lakes but they were common ones.

though it's an old thread, i'm glad it's back too.

I would really like to hit a northern lake for big pike & great walleye action one of these days, and whether to go to N Sask, N Man or N Ont is one of things I have to think about.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, any others would be much appreciated.

Joe, thanks for the suggestion of Gananoque Lake. It's so close to Kingston though that I might just stay at home and go for the day.

I assume we could launch at Griffins for a fee?

Thanks, Mike

boater card

I did a class at Bass Pro Shops. Think it was about an hour or so, and then we wrote the exam. Figured that I might as well learn something if I had to get the card anyway. Some of it was pointless but some of it was useful, e.g., I didn't know what different kinds of buoys signified. Think the tota...

intro & question

Hi everyone: Not new to the board (joined in 2004) but obviously not very active with less than 20 posts. Was an active member on OFN for a long time though not so much in the past six months. Wasn't very active on this board b/c I didn't fish in eastern Ontario that much. But that'll be changing b/...

plastics etc. in the water

Soft plastics probably don't hurt the fish unless they are big enough for a smaller fish to choke on it. (Have seen pictures of dead pike that tried to swallow walleye half or more their size) But given that they will take a long, long time for these lures to break down in the water, I think it's a ...
