Re: cats fishing outhings. get together this spring!

I am not 100% sure as I do not fish there but Victoria Island in the Ottawa River, might be closed for construction work? So might need an alternative location. But this is a great idea. Jim I think they were fishing just off the parkway the last 2 or 3 times they were out. Scarkner would know for ...

Re: Spring Crappie in Ottawa Area

I have been struggling to find them too, when I did get on them last year, it was pretty much as decribed above. Just a degree or two warmer water always seemed to hold them.

Re: Ottawa Ice Fishing Giude

Hi Everyone, So this year has been my first year getting back into ice fishing after about 10 years. Now that the kids a4e older and more patient we have more time. We have been fishing Petrie mostly and the bite (for me) has been slow. With just some sauger and the odd pike. Does anyone know of a ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season

This group is awesome. I have been a member on this site since 2014 and I have to say it is great to see such a great group of anglers giving great advice. I am part of other fishing groups and there is nothing but negativity on almost every post but with this site it really feels like a true fishi...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season

Good to hear the ice is so great. I was at Constance Bay this weekend and you could drive pretty much anywhere.

How is the driving at Shirleys? I think I am due for a trip out there soon!!!

Re: I guess -24C was worth it

WTG Steve. As I mentioned on 613 back in the day like 30+ years back the regular smelt fisherman out there would use what we call a drop shot now with up to four hooks on it and using strips of bacon as bait and a bell sinker or heavy jig. Once they caught some they would use the eyes as bait too. ...

Re: Auger bits

Like Jim said the transducer will shoot through the ice fine but there can't be an air gap. Here's what I do. With my 9" Jiffy I drill only a 1" hole just to make a bit of a shallow bowl. I carry a gallon ziplock with around 4" of windshield washer fluid and rest that in the hole and...

Re: Crappie advice

Hi all, I have a six year old daughter who is bonkers over pan fish. Volume volume volume... not really my preference but.... well the six year old has a way of making it pretty fun. I'm thinking of crappie on the Rideau river I can get a fry on and she can get the action.we are fishing from a boat...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2022 Ice season

CClad is right, over the years I've caught quite a few 3-5lb Ling at Shirleys. Near full moon always best, and I believe there will be a full moon in three days. after tracking for a few years, I think the moon is worse for Ling, especially with low snow cover like we have now. I think it makes the...

Re: Petrie island

I'm just curious about Petrie Ice fishing ice road. What kind of authority do they have? Can they legit charge you to drive on it? I understand it's plowed etc but if I were to plow a stretch of the Ottawa river I couldn't charge people access to it. It's not private property they can't ask me to l...

Re: speckled ideas

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for a water body for fishing speckled trout. The Fish ON-Line search tool sends me to several creeks in the Kemptville management zone. Not one of them appears to be worth fishing. Access points are few and far between. Another website tells me that the lands ar...

Well that was fun! Landed this PB Ling, it is 28 inches long and beat my previous PB (2016) by an inch. received_664731534681059.jpeg Knew I should have gone out yesterday!! I’ve only ever pulled out dirty Burbs between 10-14” there. Must have been a great fight!! Nicely done Yeah it was kinda funn...
