Re: Minnow Alternatives For Ice Fishing in Quebec

Smitty, It did come into effect this year, but they’ve decided to leave things as is for ice fishing for the most part (with the exception of the Ottawa river zone). One other thing, the Ministry put out a press release a couple of weeks ago saying that to encourage more angling opportunities, any Q...

Re: Minnow Alternatives For Ice Fishing in Quebec

The only fishing zone that you can ice fish while using dead minnows in Quebec (in the Ottawa area) is zone 25 along the Ottawa river. No. That’s not true. Here’s a map that details the use on dead bait fish for winter fishing. Again, taken from the Ministry’s web page. http://mffp.gouv.qc.ca/faune...

Re: Minnow Alternatives For Ice Fishing in Quebec

You can use dead minnows for the “ winter fishing “ period in Quebec from December 20 until March 31. I salted my own smelts last year and it worked prettt good. Pretty sure you are wrong there. Use of any minnows dead or alive is now prohibited. Cheers Actually, I’m pretty sure I’m right, unless t...

Re: Public shore access on private land?

Knock and talk.

If you`re not sure, knock on the home owners door and ask if you can fish off their shoreline.

Re: Fishing in Quebec

I really feel for the small businesses that this will impact. :( :( :x Yep, and it's been going on for a while already as Quebec seems to continually add more and more restrictions. For example Bob at Les Appats Kazabazua was always a regular stop on the way up 105 for bait and tackle. Good guy. He...

Re: Shirleys bay Ice

Allegedly, a pickup is stuck on the ramp, or has partially gone through.

I say `` allegedly `` because it was from a 613icefishing post on FB.

Re: Fishing in Quebec

One last question I would have is if the Quebec government is going to compensate businesses for loss of income due to the new regs. Somehow I doubt it. I feel bad for the outfitters who I'm sure will lose clients. For instance Kipawa Lodge supplies leeches. So will they all switch to worms? Maybe ...

Re: Fishing in Quebec

I was the original poster of that on IS. It`s now turned into a French-English speaking debate on there. I don`t give a rat`s butt if you are bilingual, unilingual, trilingual or whatever. I don`t care if you don`t go to Quebec for whatever reason. What I do care about is fellow fishermen potentiall...

Re: Worms vs Nymphs for hard water Rainbows?

We've been catching stockers with the Power Bait Nibblets. Get a small hook, run some mono or flouro 12-14 inches up to your main line and slide the nugget on just above the hook on the mono.

'Bows & Beau's!!

Deep in the heart of western Quebec... Yes, they are stockers from one of our beautiful lakes stocked by individual municipalities. But damn, feels good to pull a fish through the ice on January 2!! http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h467/smontague/0BE9C876-099D-4C22-82B3-4686278E2AE0.jpg Perfect p...

Lesson learned. CHECK INSIDE THE BOX!

After discovering that Canadian Tire stores in Quebec had a lot of augers on liquidation, I decided to pick up a 10 inch, 51cc model that apparently went for 629$ but was on sale for 314. Found one at the CT in Hull and picked it up on Tuesday afternoon. The box looked old and beat up and had been o...

Fall 2016, Hits & Misses!!

As promised, here is the 2016 season recap. I hunted during bow season here in Quebec`s zone 10, which ran from late September to October 7. Was at full draw on a small 6 point at 25 yards, but let him walk. Story is in a previous post. ( My uncle ended up shooting that deer during gun season ) The ...
