Meaning that the weight of snow/water on top of the ice has bowed it somewhat?Gord wrote:The water on top of the ice is caused by the weight of the snow forcing water through the ice.

Re: Ice Reports - Ottawa River - Shirley's Bay
We were out this afternoon (ended up off to the right of the launch area as seen when facing the river) and were a bit surprised to find quite a bit of slush on the ice. We were even more surprised to drill a couple of holes and discover water over topping them by well over an inch - what causes thi...

Re: What's a fella gotta do?
Water temp on the Ottawa I'd bet is near 40 and maybe lower. Weeds are dying or dead. The baitfish etc. (ie food) have simply moved on from that location to deeper areas and other more suitable areas for winter. When they leave so does everything else. Shore fishing now is tough with the exception ...

Re: What's a fella gotta do?
Thanks. I've mentioned before that we're new to the fishing scene here, is this something that happens around this time of year?Bass Addict wrote:It's a possibility that the fish have moved in to deeper water

Re: What's a fella gotta do?
Thanks for the replies, at least we know we're not the only ones going home empty
On the up side.... last night was warm, the water was flat, the moon was full, and it was a nice night to be out by the river.

What's a fella gotta do?
My son and I have been out night fishing a few times of late with no luck. Last night was warm and bright with the full moon so we went down to the lighthouse at Dick Bell Park, fished different areas of the point on the river side for over 2 hours, and ended up leaving for home with only 1 small ni...

Re: How do you find fishing spots without a boat?
My son and I find spots by driving along roads beside rivers/creeks looking for likely places and pull off spots and, where possible, asking folks from the area we're in where the fishing spots are. The local diners and community garage/gas stations can provide a wealth of information :-) It's not a...

Re: Ottawa River Shore Fishing
Thanks, I can think of a couple of spots where parking would not be an issue - I'll just have to check water levels during daylight

Re: Ottawa River Shore Fishing
I keep hearing about night fishing but have yet, other than one short attempt last winter, to participate - is there anything I should know before giving it a try regarding bait? Location? Regulations?

Re: Long Island, below Locks
My son and I were there a week or so ago and only got a few nibbles, he had been there the week prior and also left the shore empty handed.

Re: Nicest bass this season
Thanks, for a while there it seemed we were going to spend almost as much time driving as fishing. We tried a couple of areas around Manotick with no success, scooted over to Kemptville to try our luck and only managed a few sunfish, then decided to try Merrickville just upriver from the lock/dam on...

Ooops, didn't see this for wondering why I couldn't stay logged in :-( I was unwilling to delete all cookies in Google Chrome, the alternative is to go to Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> Cookies -> All Cookies and Site Data Search on fish-hawk, remove only those cookies.

Re: Wormy Catfish?
I am not certain that I would be eating catfish (bullheads) this late in the spring, but if they come out of cold water they should be fine. Doug Thanks, but that leads to another new to southern fishing question :D why shouldn't I be eating them if the water is warm? Would the Ottawa River be gene...
