Re: Cabelas... Whatchya Think?
I'll bet that Bass Pro looked at this as an opportunity to eliminate a competitor and to acquire a brand that was heavier into hunting, thus diversifying their own corporate portfolio. I'd wager that not much at all will change with the store. Overall, they are probably better keeping things as they...

Re: Cabelas... Whatchya Think?
I haven't gone yet, but I certainly will given that I live in the west end. As for many of the complaints, it's a massive store that has been open 1 day. I'm not expecting a well oiled machine, LOL. It's going to take a few months for things to smoothen out and and even then, it's a big box store. Y...

Re: check the fish on my screen
I agree with turning the Fish ID off to try and get a better sense of what it could be. It does seem odd. I was going to suggest a thermocline, possibly an algae bloom or maybe even a giant school of fish? Maybe whitefish or something like that? For what it's worth, I've never seen trout school up l...

Re: Lake St. Francis Advice . . .
That's cool, thanks BigC. I suspect I'll be casting most of the time, but I'll be on the lookout for weeds. I always thought the Rideau was bad in the summer, LOL

Lake St. Francis Advice . . .
Hi folks, I'm going to be camping down on Lake St. Francis next week for a couple of days and I was wondering if any of you could share some thoughts or advice? I've done a bit of research online and it sounds like the biggest challenge will be managing the current if I'm targeting smallmouth (would...

Re: Big Rideau . . .
Hit the Big Rideau today ... There were lots of guys fishing for Lakers, but I didn't see anyone get into any fish. I caught two Lakers on Monday. Then I headed to launch to pick up my young lad and take him out for a couple hours of shallow fishing on Lower Rideau for whatever was hitting. :D Awes...

Big Rideau . . .
Hit the Big Rideau today and caught lots of small fish, but nothing of size. I think the final tally was 2 Smallmouth, 1 Largemouth, 2 Rock Bass, 1 Perch and a pile of Bluegills. I only took fly rods with me today and the wind was pretty steady, so I tried to tuck in behind some sheltered shorelines...

Re: Short shaft outboard on a 20 inch transom?
I haven't ever done it, but I don't imagine it would work well at all. I don't think the prop would have enough clean water to perform properly and I doubt it would move the boat any faster than idle speed. Even then, it's possible that the cooling inlets would be running too high and you'd wind up ...

Re: My Crappie Long Weekend With Gar-J.
Sweet! Funny, I was actually thinking about giving the gar a go on my fly rod. Care to share any info on patterns? I was thinking stereotypical minnow patterns and/or stuff with lots of flash and movement.

Re: Ticks
Thanks for the reminder Lenny. I haven't picked up any that I've noticed, but I do run in the greenbelt around Kanata/Bells Corner quite a bit so it's good to have the reminder and to check for them afterwards.

Re: Lake Awesome Lakers...
Nice Lakers RJ! If you don't mind me asking, how long does the shallow bite last out there? Also, where are you fishing out of? Not looking for exact spots, just not sue how far of a run you have to make from Ottawa. Are there fish in the BOQ or do you have to get out into the main lake? Anything ne...
