Re: Back lakes near Ottawa
I second Almonte Fisher's sentiment re the secrecy about the trout lakes. If you want a laugh, try finding an old thread on here about finding access to Darling Long Lake. It was quite the hot topic!

Re: Mississippi Lake Report
Mississippi River pike out of Appleton were pounding everything last Saturday (the really hot day). They were on the shallow flats around the feeder creeks and down by the power line as you approach Almonte.

Re: Keep em' coming
I generally fish at the bottom of a dam at the opener and for a couple weekends after, so I usually fish jigs with twisters or a lindy rig with floating jig and live minnow to change it up a bit.

Re: Looking for lake with Canoe rentals
It's a bit farther but try North Frontenac Outfitters: http://northfrontenacoutfitters.com/ They deliver canoes to the North Frontenac Parkland lakes (Red Horse, Long Schooner, etc.). They literally drive it up for you and meet you or leave it in an agreed place. You just leave it where you found it...

Re: Johnson silver spoon
Love the Johnson. And yes, for dawn and dusk, the Hula and the Jitterbug are STILL king, IMO anyway. Nothing like getting a huge smash from a bass using a topwater in low light. You feel it and hear it even if you can't see it.

Re: Turkey Opener 2015
Sweet report! I must admit am a bit envious. I got my private land plans yanked out from under me last week thanks to a change of heart by the owner (turns out his son wants to hunt after all). Not sure what I'm going to do now. I spent quite some time time scouting that land in March, not to mentio...

Re: Supreme Court in a narrow decision rules Ottawa right
Nope, Shawn, federal government (prime minister basically) appoints Supreme Court judges.

Re: Supreme Court in a narrow decision rules Ottawa right
Quebec gets the three because the Supreme Court Act says so. Way back the wise politicians decided they should have three because they have a different (civil) legal system than the rest of the (common law) provinces. They needed three to have enough judges to hear appeals on Quebec civil issues. I ...

Re: quebec license non resident
It's all inclusive. That's the fee and the tax. They have a cheap paper permit that you buy. They also give you a client card (also paper). No extra charge for that, as I recall. And the paper permit says you can't laminate it. So keep it dry!

Re: Boat Financing
I stand corrected. Bradford's math is right. Weird though, b/c I used one of those loan calculators to figure it out. So warning: double check the math. I thought we could trust computers to be infallible? Computers yes, human programmers not so much I guess.

Re: Boat Financing
It really depends. Like buying a new car, whether you have a down payment or not, and how much, is a big factor on the monthly payment. Assume your boat is around $20,000. Finance all that at a bank loan / line of credit rate: take 7% as an example. Add 13% HST. No money down, that works out to abou...

Re: Looking for Help: ZEC Spring Fishing
I haven't stayed or fished at those particular ZECs, but I do go to a ZEC up in the north shore region of Quebec every year. My father-in-law has a camp up there. Since I have a place to stay I haven't had to rent accommodations, but I can tell you that fishing in a ZEC as a non-resident of Quebec i...

Re: Shirley's or Mississippi Lake
Thanks guys! I think I'll do as Smitty suggested and check out Shirley's on Saturday. If it looks okay I'll go there on Sunday. I keep forgetting that Ottawa River doesn't have that Zone 18 slot limit for walleye. That probably clinches it for me, plus I fish Mississippi all the time in soft water s...

Shirley's or Mississippi Lake
I don't get many chances to ice fish with two young children around the house, so when I do I want to make it count. I am heading out this Sunday afternoon until after dusk. Where do you recommend I go: Mississippi Lake or Shirley's Bay? Please keep in mind that I do not have a sled so it's walking ...
