Brown bullhead - legal?

Hi, My son and I caught a couple brown bullhead on Mississippi lake, and then put them back. I don't see them in the regs. Does anyone know what the regs are for them. All I could find was some mention in the preamble about fish not specifically mentioned. Are they worth keeping? What is the limit? ...

Re: soft plastic advice wanted

Thanks for the replies. I will start hunting down some new goodies. It seems to me most of the recommendations are found at paddletails or Bennets. Would that be right?

soft plastic advice wanted

I'm aiming to improve my soft plastic use this year, but before stocking up, I thought I'd ask for advice from anyone willing to offer it. Any thoughts on: Best creature bait, and size ( are the flapping hogs any good?) Best senko manufacturer? Best finesse worms? Best tubes (3 or 4 inches?) Best dr...

Re: What is your opinion?

I like the format the Ottawa Region Walleye League uses. Measure the fish, take a picture, let it go, move on. Seems to me this format produces the least stress on the fish. As for the poaching, pretty disgusting. X2 thats neat! It's catch and release right? Would be nice to see them have an angler...

Re: Dr John Casselman Presentation

Thanks for posting the invitation. It's a little far for me. If possible, I would appreciate being able to see a video ( if one is taken) or see a set of slides if he has prepared one.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Does lure color count.

Thanks for putting up the article smitty. I often wonder about this sort of thing, but there is a real lack of hard research that I can find. I often find authors saying things like walleye can see yellow-orange colors, or that crappie have excellent eyesight (there is a nice article on this and oth...

Re: Worm Farm

Hi, I gave worm farming a try a couple of years ago, and I am not sure if I would do it again (If you want to google it, try vermiculture or vermicomposting). I originally did it to show my kids how worms break down scrap food. It's pretty cheap to set up, and once going provides a continuous supply...

A presentation on Muskie populations by Dr. John Casselman

Been doing a little research over the winter (so this was new to me, maybe not to you). I heard tidbits about improvements in the muskie fishery, but being a transplant to this area I never realized the extent of the change until I stumbled across this presentation of the state of the N.A. muskie fi...

Re: Info on Phineys Point

Hi HH, I have not fished Phineys. I thought it was not allowed. I contacted the people who run the historical site and they indicated to me fishing was not permitted from the shore. They cited something about shoreline preservation. Was I mis-informed? I thought it could be good place to take my kid...

Re: FH closing March 1st ???

Fellas, say it ain't so. From Rex's warm welcome to Smitty's cheerful advice to the awesome pics from out west, I can say I truly enjoy this forum. I live vicariously through the posts here since I don't have the free time to get out too much. I hope it's still around after the first, otherwise my b...

First muskie

Gentlemen, Ladies, My first muskie. Not a monster (maybe 32 to 36 inches), but awesome nonetheless. Got it from shore on the Ottawa river on a 3 inch perch pattern jerkbait.. I was out with my dog, walking along the shore, few casts here, a few there. I started out with a swimbait. Seems everything ...

Reading a sonar

Hi, I am learning to read a sonar and thought I would see if more experience users would be willing to share some knowledge. For the past couple of weeks I have been going on the Rideau river out of Kars. My sonar is showing a lot of noise, but the water looks clear. It is quite different from when ...

Short report

Hi all,

Had few couple of hours to myself, so I tried out the Taylor conservation area from shore. I got this beauty, my first Rideau bass. Next time, I figure I'll bring my tinnie to improve my range.

Cheers
