+ google earth / maps.
You could also try checking mapquest - SOMETIMES they have slightly different Sat imagery which may reveal more.
The trails to the lakes will be evident when you start looking around that area. There should be sled tracks to follow as well...the K&P is your friend

Re: Summer cottage
Nothing wrong with setting up a drift either if you prefer to keep the engine off. I drift in my tinny and use a paddle to make small course corrections. Personally I prefer the drift as its quiet (for my sanity) and I can hit interesting shoals / structure / weed beds as I slowly move by, or troll ...

Re: Need some help...
I would be concerned about the sled tipping from side to side as you tow it, or always riding on one 'edge' of the board if its not perfectly centred. That said, you have to work with what you have. The suggestion of a hacksaw is a good one. They are not expensive and are useful for other applicatio...

Re: Costco 13'4" Equinox fishing Kayak
I was considering buying a kayak for use where a boat is impractical or there is no launch. I WAS going to get one of the $400-$500 ones, but your info on the uncomfortable seat changed my mind. I would be spending 4-5 hours at a time in the boat and already have an iffy back from car and ski accide...

Re: ice fishing season questions.
I would suggest going with the gas auger, not the propane one. The point above about availability of fuel and problems with starting in really cold weather should be taken into consideration. I've used a 3hp Eskimo from the 90's for the last 6 years and never had a problem, even in cold weather. Als...

There's a little kids camp on the lake, how bad can the place be?
Now I have to go and check the area out.

Re: Fish Calling Technique
The trick is, you need to smoke a lucky fish cigar (colts) when its slow. We all know as soon as you take your concentration off your rod for a minute, that's when the monsters smash your line. And there you'll be, smoke in your eyes, coughing up a lung, trying to keep the boat off the rocks with th...

Re: May 24 fishing, looking for cottage rental advice
I would suggest Ashby Lake, north of Bon Echo on the 41. You would have to search the interwebs, but I know there are places you can rent up there - couple hunt camps, cottages that are always rented by the owners. Spent many a spring up there at a friends cottage, have to say its always been good f...

Re: How many lures do you lose? Honestly...
haha great replies gents... Glad to see I'm not the only guy that casts into trees either. getting it out is done one of two ways: The fast rip, or slowwwwwly easing it up, over and around the branch. I like the idea of waiting for the ice in the winter to go back for lures...I will now note where I...

How many lures do you lose? Honestly...
I loose lots of lures when I fish. Not on purpose. Just wondering, what is the general consensus out there - you guys lose lures all the time too? I normally bass fish with a spinner tipped with a senko, or just a senko, so I don't lose too much sleep when I get snagged and have to snap the line. Bu...

Muskie Killer says he's sorry
We all remember that guy that killed the muskie in Lake St. Claire....Here he is saying he's sorry. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/news/accused-muskie-hater-apologizes-for-killing-fish-and-heated-confrontation For my 0.02, I think they should revoke his license, charge him with whatever the harshest p...

Re: Seize the moment
I just returned from the Lake Placid area....waded a few small streams and the above describes exactly the feeling I had. The thick smell of white pine and balsam fir, the gurgle of the stream around my feet and the morning sun streaming through the trees...not a soul around for miles. A picture wou...
