Re: Summer Lakers ... Semi-Report / Thermocline??

Thanks Tbone. I had no idea that seeing the difference on the depth finder was possible. I suppose that makes sense, two masses of different density; i'll see if my portable finder is sensitive enough for this. Out4trout ... as always very informative. I appreciate the response. I may rig up a therm...

Summer Lakers ... Semi-Report / Thermocline??

So packed up and went into Algonquin park this past weekend in search of some lakers. Started by trolling gang trolls paired with little cleo's or worm harnesses around the lake in what i figure was roughly 30-35 ft ( 8 colours of the lead core). We picked up our first fish after just over an hour o...

A new lake, all to yourself, big rewards - that's the dream right there. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Canoe lake info?

Canoe lake in Algonquin Park???
I've fished Canoe for lakers with some success - certainly better luck across the road in Smoke lake.

If you're not referring to Algonquin sorry - if you are let me know and i would happily scan and send depth maps for both canoe and smoke if you would like.

Cheers,

Re: Lake Trout Fishing From Canoe

I second the dipsy - great success on Laveille! I've never had an issue with line tangles while trolling two in a canoe.

It's been awhile since i've done the roughly 5km portage between Bonnafield and Dickson ... enjoy it!

Re: Algonquin Park Fishing

Few lakes along the 60 corridor i enjoy and frequent for trout ... Shirley, Louisa, Welcome. All require at least one portage.
There are also several lakes directly off the hwy that don't have any campsites but are stocked with splake.

Re: Success on the Miss

Tbone,
Thanks for the tip on riverbend. I'll be looking for more launch sites along the miss. It's a good long system with lots of opportunities and convenient proximity to Ottawa.

Any info on free ramps would be appreciated.
Almontefisher already put me onto Appleton last year!

Nice Fish!

A little selfish of me, but i'm relieved to hear i'm not the only one having a hard go at finding them.

Success on the Miss

I've had a hard time finding the walleye around Ottawa, but did manage some success Sunday on the Miss river. A friend and I made an impromptu trip yesterday (Sunday) to Pakenham. We launched at the free ramp around noon. We tossed white, chartreuse and orange twister tails and trolled some divers u...

Re: Spoons

I don't know anything about salmon.
My go to for lakers are the little cleo hammered spoons; blue+silver or orange+gold.

I'm very curious to see what others suggest!

Re: Transporting a canoe

Foam blocks work really well. They slide around less than a roof rack. I use straps in the front/ back and rope over the middle. Depending on the length of your car vs. the length of your boat you may require something around the thwart or seat to keep it from moving forwards.

Re: Report: In search of rainbows

I had no clue that it was extremely rare to find both brookies and bows in the same water. I wish i had a photo that included the tail - would a splake make more sense? I was sure it was brook at the time but am second guessing myself now.

Re: Lucky me....but need advice..

Great thread everyone. Although i'm amateur in comparison to others here i really enjoy dipsy divers for splake. No need to worry about what rate the line is sinking at - less line to bring in - and for me at least much more accurate for depth. If i'm not using a dipsy diver i certainly use a 'Chris...
