I think your mistaken. Lake clear is not connected to the bonnechere river. That being said I've always had luck for bass fishing off of any of the many islands in the lake especially the largest one in the center that has a house built on it.

I've heard the same thing about the island having a deep spot.

Also this is anot interesting read. Although it doesn't give a lot of specifics it shows that some fish must winter in the canal.

Went out yesterday from 2-630 with two buddies. Very slow dayanged to land two small perch and one small eye and missed another small one on the ice. Got afew other light taps but nothing crazy. Also caught them all on set lines which is normally not the case.

Managed to get out yesterday from 3-530 for the first time at Shirley's this year. Had lots of light hits and managed to land 5 small pickerel one being just big enough to keep. I also lost a really nice one on the edge of the ice just being carless.

Finally managed to get out on the ice this year yesterday. Only managed 2.5 hrs so I hit up Constance lake. Got afew perch to fry up and missed one pike. Nothing great. It always better to be out then at home. Ice was about 8-9.
