Re: Splake through the ice..
If I were going out on Dog, yes I would almost certainly go in from Burnt Hills Road. BUT............ You might take ganman's advice, looks like he knows the lake a lot better than most. Sorry my own splake "intel" is stale dated............. A buddy was on Loughborough yesterday and it w...

Re: Splake through the ice..
I was out today on Dog to help a buddy remove his ice hut, down off Ormsbee Road. Skidoo tracks make for good walking, but there was about a foot plus of snow, and in some places slush underneath that. And where people get on to the ice there is a stretch of about fifty yards or so of DEEP water on...

Hey guys, really great info on the lake in this thread.
Going to try once more tomorrow. Anyone have info on snow/slush conditions of the lake?

Re: Splake through the ice..
Hey guys got some shiners from Noble's today, awesome shop! So we walked out from Gilmour Point (I think that's what you call 'the beach'?)..went north east. Only saw one hut right at the launch....was expecting to see a whole bunch of them. Anyways, walked 400m just to the south of the first tiny l...

Re: Splake through the ice..
Thanks Doug, only have muds and yeah, I can see the advantage to shiners! We were planning on gilmour point, see like a shorter walk according to navionics. Heading north east towards the island will get us to 30 in 400m, south east towards the point at the end of valley view lane will be about a 3...

OK, we're gonna try the south end of Dog today, out past the huts to 30' of water. Hoping some sleds have packed a bit of a trail for us!

Re: Splake through the ice..
Ok guys, little update. Went out on Dog today from Burnt Hills Road. No joking around with that slush/snow. A good 6 inches of slush under 1' to 2' of snow, it's crazy. Buddy without snowshoes was postholing the whole time. We were boggin down the smitty sled on the way out too. Anways, we started t...

Holy sh*t what happened!? Snowshoes it is...and probably a full shovel, haha! Two more reports this morning from guys fishing yesterday on local back lakes, but NOT Dog..........ferocious slush and heavy snow over top, three hundred yards is a death march. None of those guys had snowshoes, and the ...

Re: Splake through the ice..
Hey guys, appreciate the advice.
So it looks like it's going to be quite a trek just to get out to the grounds, ah well!
Any other lakes in the area we can check out? Have a couple days so we're looking to do some exploring. What about Upper Rock?
