Re: Got a question? Let's hear it!
This was my first season trying to figure out the drop-shot... I had posted a question about it earlier this season and (I forget who), but someone had recommended the Jackall cross-tail shad. Well, let's just say that it did not disappoint! I've also used live worms on the drop-shot and the problem...

Re: Hummingbird helix 5 gps question
ive got the helix 5 and use my navionics chip all the time for navigating/plotting waypoints. I wouldn't want it without navionics. That being said, I trailer my boat to multiple bodies of water (I don't only fish a "home lake"). The only reason I didn't buy the combo (with the chip includ...

Re: Summer back lake Trouting?
Thanks Smitty! I've got a few small gangs trolls that I've used for 'bows (same idea...18 inch leader with a live worm rigged on straight). I'm gonna try and get out sometime next week... I also picked up a fast sink tip for my 5wt fly rod... It'll be fun to experiment!

Summer back lake Trouting?
So I've spent the last few years exploring truck accessible back lakes for brookies in the springtime (Lanark/Calabogie area). It's been tons of fun figuring out where I can get to (some trails got really washed out, some are blocked with closed gates , and every once in awhile I make it back, launc...

Re: Laker depth **update with pic**
Congrats on your first Lake Trout! Were you using gang trolls? Or just straight up lures? I've only really had success Laker fishing with my lead core with Williams's wobblers and a few select rapalas... I haven't had any success with my downrigger unfortunately....

Re: Can Lake Trout be caught on trout-nuggets, trout paste?
Another option out of your kayak is to troll with lead core in the early mornings or evenings... Lakers will be deeper in the summer (below thermocline)...but will be actively feeding higher up in the water column during those times. Troll lead core , 3-6 colours , paddling just fast enough to get y...

Re: Good spots near Barry's Bay / Carson lake
Do you have lead core set up for Lake trout trolling ? If so, I'll PM you a spot to get on some Lakers on Kamaniskeg lake. Otherwise , I've heard good things about the mad river in the combermere/Palmer Rapids areas (haven't been myself)

Silver Lake
Hey, I'm heading out to silver lake tomorrow...hoping to catch a few bass (mainly looking for numbers to keep my non-fisherman company from getting bored). All Catch and Release. I had really good luck last year tossing powerbait chigger craws to the shoreline weeds for LM. I was hoping to get any k...

Re: Boat & Trailer security
i keep a cuppler lock on my trailer, I also have a swing-tongue which swing all the way out of position and remove the locking pin. I also have a lock on my hitch receiver so that it can't be removed when hooked up to my truck. That being said...it's all really just a deterrent and none of it is goi...

Re: Swim Baits
Picked up some 3.3 inch keitech fat impact swimbaits in white ... I was super impressed with the action of this swimbait. They put 4 lake trout in the boat last week...ill be buying more of these in different colours for when bass opens up!

Re: Helix 5 - set up?
If you don't have DI then you should have the 83/200 option... If you google "humminbird helix 5 manual" you should find a downloadable PDF manual. Download it and scroll to page 61 which talks about it

Re: Helix 5 - set up?
I bought the helix 5 DI GPS (paired it with navionics chip) and its been great. Here's one MAJOR flaw that I recently discovered... There is no 83 kHz (ie the 60 degree "wide" coverage) with this unit...making it often difficult to have a wide enough cone to consistently see you lure when ...
