KAAO Ottawa River Cleanup and Friendly Fish
Hey everyone ... If you are a kayak or canoe angler there is a great event this weekend being hosted by one of the members of the Kayak Anglers Association of the Outaouais. A bunch of our members will be gathering at Shirley's Bay on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m., to do some cleaning up along that sec...

Re: A Place For Kids
Hello Rawb ... one place close by to you is the Mississippi at Pakenham. There is a decent launch there and good bass fishing through that stretch. Also lots of panfish around. One nice thing about that location is that you can double up with lunch (little burger join right on the corner at the five...

Re: Brockville are with the kids
Hey Mark: Sorry to see you didn't get any suggestions on Sunday. I am in Ottawa area, so not much help on good spots for you. But, I used to take my kids fishing a fair bit when they were quite young, and probably a bit too late, I discovered the best places were spots that had a TON of other things...

Re: Nice Carp and one stupid musky!!!
That's one chunky carp, all right.
But "stupid" musky? Hell, he was probably hanging around, giggling a bit, showing you what you COULD have caught if you'd stayed with the pike lures... lol

Re: Crank bait vs a spinner bait?
Spinnerbaits are great when you want to cover a lot of water. As previously said, they can be a good starting point especially for pike. I have several in the ole red & white colour and have been doing quite well with them so far this season. A thought, though, about the fish which are just foll...

Re: Quick question - Pike
Just one other note about leaders, guys: I use a black steel leader while specifically targeting pike. I think the black is a bit less visible in most conditions. Also, if you spend a bit more for good quality leaders they don't seem to kink up as much as the cheap varieties. My current leader is ab...

Re: I had a huge... Something!
Yep, if you were using 40-lb main line, and that fish was just steadily taking line it was almost certainly a sturgeon. And, from your description, a big un! Shame you didn't get a chance to at least see it. But, hey, if you hooked him once it's quite possible you could do it again! He's probably st...

Re: Solid day for pike
Hey Jul0682 I hear you. When you are working new water it always takes a bit of time to get used to it and find the areas that produce fish. When you say "airport", do you mean the Ottawa airport? If so, while there are still good numbers of fish in that stretch of river, boy it gets a lot...

Solid day for pike
After a really slow start to the pike season, at least personally, finally found a pattern that worked just a couple of days ago (before Sunday's rain). Was fishing a stretch of the Rideau that I have not had much experience with, but with very little boat traffic at this time of year there was lots...

Re: Tired of the followers...
Have not traditionally been out a lot for pike early in the season, but the past couple of weeks I have been surprised at not catching a few more of them. Made 3 treks in the past 2 weeks and while I've caught a couple, they have been very scattered and on widely divergent types of structure / cover...

Re: Walleye & Pike Opener - Quality, but not quantity!
Hey guys we were talking to you Saturday morning from the big, old orange Coleman 17! We never did get a pike, but did get a couple of very nice walleye, about the same size as yours. Caught and released. They seemed scattered though, get one, move on... And yeah, it was a REALLY good idea to get ou...

Re: Slow Start to the Season
Well, you probably trolled right by us. We were out in my big, orange Coleman 17 between Baxter CA and the 416 bridge for several hours Saturday morning. We lost 1-2 smaller pike, nothing anywhere near as lovely as your beast, but we did hook up with a couple of very nice walleye. As for the OOS bit...

Re: Fish Tagging
Hiya Drew: I would definitely consult with the natural resources ministry before even considering tagging fish. Even though your lake might have very limited, or no, other public access it is still governed by the province. I am not sure of the regulations in Quebec, but I know in Ontario it would b...
