Re: Lake trout spoon size
I have a paper map of Charleston that I bought from the MNR years ago. Wish they still sold them. There was a big book of lakes to choose from. I use my navionics on my phone now. Season opener is on the 28th this month and the fishing has always been good for me. Some double digit days during the f...

Re: Lake trout spoon size
I mostly use 3 inch spoons, 4 inch if you include the hook when I'm out on Charleston Lake.
Where abouts will you be fishing? I troll circles around the outside of big water with leadcore 3 to 5 colours over 30 feet all season.
I've never had much luck jigging em up but but some people do

Re: Is it the rod, or coincidence???
Could be the rod but my guess would be the jig you were tossing. There's a lot of hungry fish out there this time of year and grubs are a good choice

Re: Sharing a seat! Don't be afraid...
Great gesture.
Personally I can't share a seat because I sold my boat but if anyone wants to experience what the St Lawrence River around Brockville has to offer I'd be happy to get you on to some fish

Re: A great, low visibility braid?
I use 20lb power pro and the 832 suffix in 20lbs on the St Lawrence. Key is to use fluoro for a leader in the clear water. I wouldn't be too worried about visibility on the rideau. As for comparing the braid I don't find a difference

Re: Ottawa and/or Rideau river temperatures?
The only water temperature information that I know of being updated online is the great lakes (including lake ontario). Might still be useful to track how closely this and the Ottawa river are aligned? http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glcfs.php?lake=o&ext=swt&type=N&hr=00 Not sure if...

Re: Spring Catfish
Never tried the slinky weights. I toss out a 2oz bell sinker and with my method of retrieval I very rarely get hung upsmitty55 wrote: Any of you guys tried using slinky weights at the end of your line. That should be far less prone to be getting hung up.

I have to do the same thing. It also helps to keep your rod tip up high. My arms are over my head when reeling inFishoholic wrote:Trick is to reel in fast when changing it up so your sinker doesn't get snagged.

Re: Spring Catfish
Do you put the hook through the bag, or set it up more like a carp rig with the hook just barely through the surface of the bag (so the fish takes the bag into it's mouth, without feeling the hook)? I hook em right under the knot. Cats aren't as shy as carp. Preparing and freezing them would work a...
