Re: DRAFT Ottawa River Management Plan - posted for comment

Interesting. I found the recommendations on Channel cats weird. Encourage commercial fishing but they also say that they are easily overharvested and big ones are full of toxins. My main issue with any commercial fishery, especially in freshwater, aside from the risk to the target species, is the d...

That's a sweet fall for ya man!!

I would seriously rethink, your rethinking, of thinking that the Ottawa would be a better choice in the later fall. Bad thoughts, really bad, especially this year.

Re: Ottawa river water levels / debris

Went fishing twice since this post.......What a disaster.... So me and my buddy fished riviere du lievre on the QC side for a few hours but had no luck so we moved in to the bay/creek at the mouth of the river. Within 30 minutes we were pulled over by 2 Agents de la faune du Quebec . They checked o...

Before is good for sure, but its not just the 30 minutes before. The hours ahead of a storm can be very productive.

After...well...see avatar.

Re: Does lure color count.

Regardless of any study that says it doesn't matter... The vast majority of the BIG muskies in my boat are consistently caught on two or three patterns. One colour in particular has put an exceptional amount of big fish in the net. Lots of other colours catch lots of fish, but a couple of colours ca...

Re: MNR Watch

I However, in cases like the above where fish spawn much later in the year then is normal becuase of a late winter, and fish are still on beds when the season officially opens, studies have shown that fishing has very little impact on the number of fish that would have matured to a size where then ...

Re: Is fish Hawk the right place to ask this?

I don't think it would swim any more. The blades would be on shaft attached to the line tie I assume.

Its also not through wire, not sure I would even cast that in the vicinity of a big muskie

Re: Zone 12 Slot Size

I've seen guys on the Ottawa with their cottage close buy, catch one over, run to shore drop it off then come back out.

I watched one guy do this twice in a matter of minutes, when I went over to inform him he tried to tell me they were pike...

Re: Musky killer Sentenced

I agree it is a pretty good sentence....mostly But... #1 - I find it very difficult to believe that a guy of this character won't just go fishing anyway. He has likely been doing crap like this sine his conception and this is the first he got caught, so the risk is minimal. 5 year ban would have bee...
