Re: New to Kayak and very interested
yak2.JPG newyak.JPG I bought a Wilderness Atak 140 in November. 3 days later strapped it on top of my parents van and headed for Port Charlotte, Florida. Managed to get out early 2 mornings. Caught a 30" bonnet head shark, an 8" diameter stingray and a catfish. All in the flats. It is a g...

Re: Rod and line advice
Check http://www.netknots .com It has lots of animation showing most popular knots and a lot most have probably never heard off. It is a great resource. I mostly use braid with Seagaur flouro leaders. Double-uni knot between. I bought a tool at Cabela's a few weeks ago. Helps in tying a number of kn...

Re: New Ramp (Sort of) At Britannia Water Treatment Plant
I was at the Dragon boat festival a couple of weeks back. Only public boat launch between Hogs Back and Black Rapids is at Hogs Back. Ottawa Fire water rescue truck and trailer are parked beside the boat launch out of the way. When they got back , two cars parked in the boat launch. WTF. Some days p...

Re: New Ramp (Sort of) At Britannia Water Treatment Plant
Ottawa Fire has been using this spot for a number of years to access below the rapids. It could have something to do with that. Whenever someone gets into the rapids at Britannia this is the preferred launch site. If you are using this site , please make sure the site is not blocked.

Re: Calabogie camping - permits required?
I believe that In Renfrew county it is free but once you hit North Frontenac there are charges for camp sites and road access.

Re: Fishing NY/Vt
Not sure why we get asked every time we go into the US now. I never got asked for paperwork with the boat I used to take to Henderson Harbour.
Might be because we bought the boat in Florida but I just keep all the paperwork handy now to avoid problems.

Re: Fishing NY/Vt
Make sure you have the registration for your boat, and ownership for your trailer. Last year we were asked for the registration, this year for the trailer ownership while headed for Florida. If you are fishing in New York between Nov 1 and May 1 it is mandatory to wear a life jacket while on the wate...

A friend was up on the weekend. Hydro line has lots of snow and ice. With the forcast for this week it will be late next week before small lakes open up.

Re: Long Island Ice report
Just finished watching local news. I guess I need to go out and buy a new Oxford dictionary. Apparently my definition of closed and two snowmobilers definition of closed are vastly different. OFSC and OPP have been asking (telling?) people to stay off snowmobile trails because they are not safe. Let...

Re: life jacket pfd
Sorry guys but my info came from a Transport Canada trainer. Met him one day above Long Island locks. He was certifying a couple of guys to pilot one of the dredge barges there. He came over to check our boat. Fire department rescue boat. We got talking about life jackets and PFDs. Our PFDs are spec...

Re: life jacket pfd
Please keep in mind that a PFD in your boat does not qualify as a life jacket on board unless you are wearing it. It does not count if it is under a seat or lying on the deck of your boat.

Re: Long Island Ice report
Please stay off of the rivers and lakes for a few more days. Ottawa Fire has already picked a few people and a couple of dogs out of local rivers. It won't kill you to stay off, but might kill you if you go on. With the couple of cold nights people are going to get braver but the forcast for later o...
