Re: Lake Trout
Welcome to the board sw. I'm by no means a down rigging expert, I actually prefer long lining lead-core or jigging (with RJ). I believe the key to getting started with Lakers is to keep it simple, in the spring and early summer I don't think you'd even need downriggers (someone may argue differently...

Re: Warning
Madawaska River actually.
Arnprior area up river from the dam. The launch is in behind the airport get there by going past the Antrim truck stop and around the airport.
Claybank is the other launch a little further upstream on the Madawaska.

Re: Fish Identification
Hopefully this helps. As RJ hinted at huge difference in the way both are managed.
That's how you tell them apart, this is what you want them to look like..

Re: Ottawa River Rockland
I don't think you have anything to worry about. There's a couple spots that are shallow and have a tree stump or two but they're obvious enough you should be going real slow by the time you get on top of them. One would be going into the bay right across from Rockland. Yes there's a spot you can rip...

Re: Kawartha's Muskie Report
Sounds like you had a decent week that ended in a good way with a great day.
This year seems to be the year of the follow, I've seen more fish than ever. Sadly most seem spooked by the boat and turn away rather than continuing into the 8.
There's always next year....
Thanks for posting.

Re: when do the local launches close
When you can't access the water cause the plow man doesn't fish and has piled the snow right in front of the ramp, or when your lures start to bounce.

Re: Been away....
Great mixed bag of fish and smiles there.
I'd say you're a lucky man, but it's really your guests that are the lucky ones.
Keep at 'er and post that darn laker report when you get a chance. LOL

Re: What's better than a topwater muskie strike?
[quote="Who_ate_all_the_Pie?" Do you work your top water fairly fast, or slow or intermittent?[/quote] There's a reason people call them heartbreak lures. You're just going to miss your fair share of fish. I've pretty much given up on walk the dog style lures for that reason alone. But Mik...

What's better than a topwater muskie strike?
Mike landed a nice 45" muskie and we were asking ourselves that very question. Turns out it would only take twelve and a half hours to find the answer.... IMG_20170626_203202_edit.jpg The answer: When it's your first 50 casting and it's on topwater, that has to be just a little better. IMG_2017...

My 2017 Muskie opener.
Mike and I were busy on the actual opener this year so we decided to take a day off during the week to see if we could get the season started on the right foot. Since we fish the Ottawa about 95% of the time we don't really have to much experience fishing the "interior". We decided we'd br...

Late opener = early success
Well we finally got a chance to hit the old lac for some touladi on Friday and Saturday and they did not disappoint. Mike was in New Zealand for opener so we had to push it back a couple weeks and I think that might have been a blessing in disguise. Usually we're all jacked up to get out the first d...

Very nice.
Always neat to see your early season excursions paying off.
Congrats on a beauty Bow.
