Bear jerky??

I was fortunate enough to harvest my first black bear (there is a fall season in Quebec) and was considering making jerky. I have read about trichinosis and cooking temps. I tried some of the bear meat and rather enjoyed it. Anyone have experience making bear jerky? I`ve read some guys dehydrate it ...

Team QcConnection is on the board!

Being a shift worker, I plan my hunts accordingly. My vacation starts tomorrow, but when QcConnection SR said he was hunting today, I put him on a good spot. Now, my dad is about as old school as they come. He just recently retired his Bushnell Scopechief VI for a Nikon 3-9 scope. He'd wake up at th...

Re: Honouring my father at Megabucks

I remember meeting you and your dad a few years ago Mav.

I bought an iRod and a Dobyns off of you. Your dad seemed like a pretty cool cat. Very nice man.

Oldest deer I`ve ever encountered, WITH photo evidence.

Being that this is my first post on Archery Talk, I figured I`d make it an interesting one. Here in beautiful, sunny Western Quebec( a common misconception of our lovely province is that everyone who lives there is francophone. Not true), a majority of hunters shoot spikes, fork horns, and other sma...

Re: Deer Sign

Things are starting to pick up here in West Quebec!! I watched a spike make a scrape on a field edge yesterday morning (muzzle loader opener) and elected to let him walk. Saw 3 small bucks yesterday morning. Worked a night shift last night, slept for a few hours this morning and was out and about wi...

Re: Broadheads??

Just finishing my first weekend of bow hunting. Man, what a rush. Having worked a night shift Friday night, I slept for about half the day yesterday. On the way via quad to my stand in the afternoon, saw 2 small bucks but both were well out of range. The evening brought 2 doe's and a spike to about ...

Re: Cabelas... Whatchya Think?

I`ll let you know what I think tomorrow afternoon... Myself and from what I can tell, almost anyone who ever ordered anything from Cabela`s got a ``VIP`` invite to go the day before the grand opening and receive a 20 percent discount on Cabela`s brand stuff. Also, worth noting, I`ve heard that peopl...

Hunt camp cocktails?

Alright,

`Tis the season! So, what`s everyone`s favorite cocktail at the camp after a long hard day of not seeing anything??

Something complicated? Simple like rye and ginger?

Let`s hear what everyone likes!

Goosin'!!

To say that I'm a novice when it comes to waterfowl hunting is an understatement. I've been hunting ducks now for about 4 years, a couple of mornings a year and have bagged 3. I always wanted to try goose hunting but could never get all the pieces into play. A few weeks ago, I was visiting my uncles...

Re: Broadheads??

Thanks Smitty!!
We'll see what happens. I'm fairly confident in my gear, but there's an awful difference between shooting a foam target in your back yard and shooting an animal on its home turf!

Looking forward to the challenge.

Cheers fellas.

Re: Broadheads??

So, here`s the skinny!! Shot a few different heads the last little while. I`m shooting a Martin MOAB Pro Hunter at 60 pounds, 30 inch draw, CX Maxima Red arrows. I shot the 2 blade rages, and was impressed, but not wowed. I shot 3 blade G5 T3`s and was impressed with their accuracy. The winner thoug...

Broadheads??

Just got into archery hunting. Picked up a nice used Martin bow. What`s everyone using for broadheads? Fixed or Mech? I like the devastation that the popular mechanized heads seem to do, but would prefer the reliability of a fixed blade. Any experiences or brands to stay away from, pros, cons, let `...

There's a public boat launch onto the river in Low. Lac Sainte Marie also has a launch.
