Re: Winterizing

I'd take a quick check of the lower unit oil. If it's milky there's water in it and it should be changed. If there's a real cold night the water might freeze and could crack the casing. I broke one years ago. I don't know how cold it has to get, but better safe than sorry.

Re: Advice please

If you want fall walleye a couple of hours from Ottawa, you should consider the Bay of Quinte. When the fish come in, it's unbeatable for quantity and size. It's not remote but the bay's big enough your not going to be bumping into people. There's lots of good ramps, accommodations, food, bait and h...

Re: Bobs lake launch

Never fished Crow. I've been through the village and the ramp looks good but parking is limited. You can see the ramp on Google Earth. I'm told that when the waters high you can get through the gap into Bob's Lake from Crow. Good fishing.

Re: Bobs lake launch

Basically the road dead ends into the lake. Not really a ramp. Parking is on the shoulder of the road and vey limited. I was at Bob's Lake two weeks ago and the water is really low. You might have to drive out into the water to launch your boat. I'd say a small boat is probably OK. A larger boat not...

Re: Boat cleaner

I bought some Marine Spray Nine. I bought a two pack on sale. Can't remember if it was Bass Pro or West Marine. The stuff works great on vinyl flooring and seats. I've used it to remove a stain on carpet but I tested it first. Years ago I was watching a cop dusting for fingerprints at a cottage brea...

Re: 90 merc 4 stroke or 90 etec

Just a couple of things I do to address the fast troll. I couldn't drill holes in my new motor for a trolling plate. For trolling, I use a bow mounted Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 with I-Pilot. Works great as long as it's not too windy. On windy days, I made a rope bridle that hooks on my rear cleats. Fr...

Re: transom repair.

I've replaced a couple. Not too bad of a job. I used white oak for the replacement wood. Got it from a local mill. I cut it to size and then the mill planed it for me. Mine weren't wrapped in aluminum. If your is I would drill out the rivets or remove the screws. Use what's left of the old wood for ...

Didn't realize he's parking his boat in his wife's studio. Bound to be some friction there.

Re: Requirements of a storage shed for most boats

Why not save your money and go with a portable garage? Canadian Tire sells Shelter Logic and they regularly come on sale. I've had one for 5 year and it's still going strong. You need to anchor it to the ground really well and take the snow and ice off before it gets too heavy. If you build a boat s...

Re: MinnKota Terrova

If your buying a new motor, consider the Minn Kota I-pilot. I added one to my Power Drive V2 a couple of years ago. Use it all the time. I wouldn't be with out one. If you buy the I-pilot already installed it will save you money. The Terrova will give you a foot pedal where the V2 won't. I never use...

Re: Pistol Grip casting rod, anyone use one?

I'm assuming that your talking about the casting rod with a short rubber handle, that got wider at the butt. I had one and wasn't a big fan. The rubber feels good at first, but after awhile it'll rub your skin. I also found that the rod was too much weight forward and caused wrist fatigue. I still u...

Isn't renting a guy's fly rod like renting his wife? You can look but don't touch.

Seen them, never used them. Can you imagine trying to get all those hooks out of your net. Remember, there's been more tackle created for catching fishermen, than fish.

Re: Collapsible or folding net

I bought a collapsible net a couple of years ago. The net material was soft and would grab the hooks and not let go. I'd have to cut the hooks out. I gave the net away and went to a solid frame net. It lays flat on the floor and you can walk on it. The net material is rubberized and won't grab hooks...
