I like my quickfish III. Not as fast to set up as a flipover, but I get to the spot a lot faster because I'm not dragging 80lbs behind me. I also like being able to stand up every so often.

Use a larger slip float!
Or you can check out the polaris line of floats. They're marketed towards carp anglers but I've successfully used them with live bait for all kinds of fish.

Lots of walleye/sauger to be had along the Ottawa shoreline this time of year. Ripraps seems to draw them in for some reason.

I would agree the Rideau is definitely the place to be in Ottawa for fishing especially from shore. The Ottawa is great if you have a boat but the size of it makes it a little more difficult from shore. Personally, I'm not a fan of it. I find it doesn't cast as well as power pro and tends to dig into itself. That's my experience, but I've only ever used the 30lb tuf-line.
