Re: Baptiste and Elephant Lake - Muskie?
Have fished Baptiste over the years while visiting friends' cottages on northeast Lavalley Bay, near Blueberry Island. Only catches have been small sized bass and pike, as well as panfish, but was always limited by having to hang out with non-anglers, only being able to fish from the docks at the co...

Re: Stocked brook trout report
-It is stocked by the Bancroft District MNR every 2 years -It, and several other nearby trout-stocked lakes, can be found on Fish ON-Line -It is accessed by Major Lake Rd, from Hwy 60 in Madawaska, but the connections (abandoned logging roads and trails) from Major Lake Rd to the lake mean that you ...

Re: Canal bassin’
Thanks. Yeah, there was a guy using MH baitcasting gear, fishing the same area at the same time I was and not catching anything. Finesse was the key, what with the time of day, bright sunlight, and boat traffic.

Canal bassin’
Hit the downtown section of the Canal for the opener for about 2 hrs this past Saturday and caught 6 LMB, as well as several bluegill and small perch. All fish were caught tossing 1 ½ cm Berkley power nymphs (toad colour) on 1/16 oz VMC neon moon eye jig heads towards any available shelter/structure...

Re: New gear you want to try
Got a package from Digitaka today, containing replacements for my SS700 and SS1300 (will still keep them as backups/beaters). Plan to break in the 2000S-XH during the bass opener this weekend.

+1, that's very kind of you. I've posted "found" notices on Kijiji when I've come across things of value like phones, keys, Presto cards, etc.

Stocked brook trout report
Went last weekend and hiked into a small lake near Whitney. Fished by casting from shore using a rig consisting of a small Mustad UltraPoint Slow Death hook tipped with medium sized earthworms and a small split shot sinker. Caught my limit of 2017 year class stocked brook trout (average wt. about 1 ...

Long weekend troutin'
Hit a stocked trout lake near Madawaska and Whitney during the long weekend, with good results. On Saturday my fishing partner and I canoed to “rainy island” and caught our limit of splake (stocked 2017, average weight about 1 lb each) casting from shore using a ¼ oz. rainbow trout colour Little Cle...

Outstanding! I'll have to try using a kayak for fishing the next time I visit Sanibel.

Re: Splake on ice
Been cleaning fish, wild caught and store bought, for over 20 years so have had lots of practice. Almost all of the lakes in the Madawaska/Whitney area have some sort of population of minnows and/or panfish introduced by bait bucket dumping anglers. In my experience using minnows greatly increases c...

Re: Splake on ice
The 3 that bit on the jig were hooked while it was still (after a few twitches and lifts), if you can believe it. I like to process the splake into boneless, skinless fillets.
