Re: The crappie bite
I found mine in the shallows. Looks like they are setting up for the spawn in old weedbeds.

Not much you can do other than change technique and move spots.

Re: Rope Lure for Gar
I think the rugs are clear about fishing being caught via hook. Thorough if your new pike lure made with frayed rope snags the teeth of a gar it would seem that your guilt is at the descresion of the mar officer. One thing though, many less ethical people would likely not unsnag the gar before letti...

Re: A quick question about the biggest catfish
My biggest in the Ottawa area has been about 8.5 lbs. https://i.imgur.com/ZiztTUC.jpg The average is 2-4 pounds; A good catch is 4-6 pounds. There are 20lbs in the Ottawa area but rare. In a previous discussion the consensus was that the the St. Lawrence around the thousand Islands was your best for...

Getting the lead out.....
So anyone opinionated on this one wrt fishing? Generally I agree with being environmentally friendly but I think lead really only impacts specific sensitive areas. For the most part I do not think that lead would be a top concern in the Ottawa, Rideau and St. Lawrence given all the other things thos...

Re: Cornwall question
The St. Lawrence is a prim carping spot. I would not be surprised if they were fishing for carp. I have seen lots of reports of good carp catches over the past week two (mostly from the kingston area).
I have not heard many reports of catfish activity yet on the Larry or the Ottawa yet.

Re: CARP in the Rideau
Rideau has a lot of carp but unfortunately I have yet to find a point with a strong concentration. though dams seems to have a better concentration that most areas. I have seen pods swimming around Watsons mills (in the pools between the dam and the fishermans path). I know people who catch them reg...

Re: Channel cats
The easiest rule of thumb used by some is "when the Dandelions come up"; Many of here beat that by quite a bit. Last years first catch was "Tue Apr 11, 2017" by Peron. Arpil 15th is my best. I find the Nation river near the Ottawa is a good spot for early cats. Last year was warm...

Re: A little question about Ottawa Pond Fishing
A lot of the water retention ponds have fish. The water retention pond in Barrhaven by the home depot has carp and bullhead (I have caught both there). I have found other ponds in other ponds that have creek chubs and some sunfish in them. Mud Pond near the water plant has bullhead and Carp from wha...
