Re: A Quickie With The Mrs. + Fishing With Two Living Legend

Great report! Lots of adventure, family and fish. You may be the only people out there with his and hers float tubes.

I see no pics were posted of the 'Quickie With The Mrs.' though. Probably a good idea on that one

Re: FROGS!

The scum frog was always my favourite. I'd fill it full of small split shot till it would almost sink. Worked very well!

Re: Smallies on top

Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys. Will be trying the spooks more for sure. I have used them quite a bit for largemouth, but not much for smallmouth. Can't wait!

Re: Smallies on top

So you think a Spook will work better in a chop? The popper doesn't, at all lol. I will try that this year... thanks!

Smallies on top

Gearing up for Saturday when I can finally chase down some smallies. I'm hoping to do a ton of topwater fishing this year. Usually I use the standard Pop-R and have success doing so. Was wondering what others favourite topwater smallie baits are and under what circumstances you fish them? I haven't ...

Re: So how was your opener?

Despite what some people seemed to think Bass still isn't open in zone 15 yet. I still got out for the day with the kids (which means one hour exactly) and had a blast! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k298/sullyyy/2015/cIMG_4261_zpsuknbtue0.jpg When bass finally does open up I'm there all week. Fr...

Re: 1 day, 13 hrs, 55 mins

Gotta wait an extra 7 days in zone 15. Boooo.
Should be interesting though. From what I've seen most fish aren't even on beds yet there.

Re: What line should I use?

It's funny you mention straight braid. When fishing with a neighbour kid last year he was snagging up and breaking off and tangling so often I just never put the leader back on. He was using straight up 15lb pp, no leader, dropshotting, and still catching fishing consistently. Makes you wonder lol.

Re: What line should I use?

Another braid/flouro leader guy here. Using #1 gammy wide gaps. I find I feel way more bites with the braid, more importantly I feel bottom a lot better. But most importantly I like to leave the line on my reels for 3 years or more without changing it haha.

Sounds like a good day to me! I never took the kids when they were that small. I can imagine the work involved during the move, but it was a good one like you said. Good going.

Re: SPL- Soft Plastic Lures

But I disagree with the notion that because I cause some damage by being there, that I shouldn't worry about mitigating that damage at all. If we all had that attitude the future of angling would be in rough shape. That's not exactly what I said. I try and minimize damage to the fishery as much as ...

Re: SPL- Soft Plastic Lures

Not to hijack but........ Ok I'll bite. What does lead shot have to do with SPL???? But to answer your question somewhat, Migratory Bird regulations are federal, not provincial like other hunting regs. At first you were allowed to use lead shot in fields, but they soon realized it became kind of a ...

Re: Dropshot rod advice

My advice - don't over think it. I use a 6'8 compre and have no problem feeling everything below and catching loads of smallies and walleye. I had an 11 year old several times with me last year using a very old 2 piece rod and he too was loading the boat. By all means, if it's your thing get technic...

Re: Minn Kota 3a Fuse

Got this sorted out over the weekend. Smitty it's a fused ground wire that runs from the trolling motor to the cranking battery. So if the fuse were blown (it wasn't) the motor is no longer grounded and the potential for interference exists. I did find an issue though. That ground wire in the TM hea...

I'd say in these parts a 15" slab is as rare as a 7lb largie. Nice catch dude.
