Re: Fishing from Shore - Ottawa

My kids (7 & 10) and I have had a lot of luck lately using worms and bobbers under the Strandherd-Armstrong bridge. We caught 5 smallmouth (all 6-10" in size, mind you), in under an hour. My son even caught a crayfish on his worm, LOL! He thought it was the best thing ever. You can part at ...

Re: trailer tires

Tread depth has no real correlation with "life remaining" on trailer tires. As trailer tires are prone to sitting extended periods without rolling, the oils in the rubber do not get dispersed as much as say a car or truck tire. Not only that, but it's the UV rays that degrade the sidewalls...

Re: Parking fees at White Lake boat launch

Did they finally post a sign? I was speaking with the director of recreation as part of the BAA event there a few weeks ago. I said it was unfair that many ppl didn't need to pay but as an organization we were forced to pay. Technically the launch is federal property. But, the parking areas at the b...

Re: Bass Opener

Well, Shootout is on Mississippi on Sunday, so I assume there will be a lot of boats on that lake on Saturday pre-fishing. BAA is on White Lake on Saturday with 32 boats. Rideau @ Kars is a good option, but with the weather, I'm betting you'll see a LOT of big cruisers around throwing wakes at you. ...

Re: Flouro leaders Just Curious

I always use fluoro leaders for dropshot. 20# braid mainline with a 6-10' 8# P-Line CFX fluoro leader material as the leader. I use the Crazy Alberto knot to join mainline to leader. I find it quick and easy to tie and extremely strong. I may experiment with the "FG Knot" this year as it a...

Re: Fitzroy provincial park fishing and camping?

I really like that campground. We typically reserve spots in the campground away from the remote but larger beach w/ playground - we get spots near the 'smaller' beach which overlooks the hydro dam straight-on. It's very shallow, so kids swimming is perfect. Also, the 'small' beach is still HUGE, an...

I think Green Drake carries this.

Thanks - I've emailed them to see what they have and recommend.

Re: Anyone have Flex Coat locally?

Thanks for the link. You don't find that it's too hard/brittle, and doesn't that stuff react (turn yellow/brown) in UV light?
I may try this but would rather have a flexible epoxy vs something hard and brittle.

Anyone have Flex Coat locally?

I need to replace two guides on a pair of rods I have. I have the guides, I just cannot find Flex Coat (the epoxy for finishing the wraps and holding it all into place). Online it's terribly expensive and hard to ship to Canada. Does anyone have FlexCoat here? Could I even maybe use a very small amo...

Re: cleaner for prop exhaust

I would guess that any stainless-steel safe product that is made for mag/alloy/aluminum wheels would work. I used a wheel cleaner that came in a small (1/2 a can of pop size) jar, on stainless exhaust tips on my previous car. With a sponge and a lot of elbow grease, the black soot came off and the r...

Re: Paddletales Wing Ding Spring Sale Thing

Glad to hear it went off with a bang. From the looks of the photos I've seen, the turnout was huge. As I was standing in three inches of water, only catching fingerling perch... I was thinking about the finger-licking turkey I could be eating at Paddletails! Mr. Wallet has dictated that, since my n...

Re: Frog rod

I use the Savvy 735C and have been doing-so for the past 3+ years. It's my dedicated frog rod. I rarely miss fish, and, it was able to pull a 6.3 pound largie out of some HEAVY Ottawa River slop with ease. Around here the 736C would get less use as it's just a bit too heavy for other applications. I...
