Re: lure color

My senko-style baits now generally fall into two categories. Fish imitators and crayfish imitators. Smoke based and lighter watermelon colors with a bit of fine glitter make up the bulk of my minnow imitators and are fished wacky style. My crayfish colors are generally pumpkin copper/orange red and ...

Re: Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

Would like to thank everyone for all the great information. Although I did a modicum of reel maintenance, I feel that going forward I would like to get a bit more serious about maintaining my reels. Over the past several years I have been replacing and upgrading my rods and reels and feel it is impo...

Re: Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

I just watched a YouTube video with buddy changing out spool bearings. It looks rather straight forward. Also during my YouTube research I saw a tool used to remove the retaining pin on the spool shaft. All buddy used was a pair of pliers. My concern would be damage to the shaft and pin using the pl...

Re: Whopper Plopper

Never too early to start shopping for next year......just got a box of goodies from 6th Sense Lure Co.

I'm a member of several fishing boards, there seem to be a bit of a cult following with Whopper Plopper on a board that specializes in River Smallies.

Good luck,

Re: Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

I see I have been living under a rock as far as reel maintenance goes. I was the drop or two of oil here and some greese here kinda guy. Never venturing too far into the inner workings of my reels. This will be my hurdle to over come, me working on my reels. The thought frightens me. I guess it is t...

Re: Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

Thanks for the info guys!!!

OK....I will be honest. I lubricate but never have flushed my bearings. What solvent would you recomend. Also my Hot Sauce oil and greese containers are almost empty. Any recomendations on prefered lube brands appreciated.

Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

Greetings, I would like to ask the board about their thought and opinions on up-grading the bearings on a baitcaster to ceramic such as ABEC-7's. I have done a bit of research on this and have no clear answer. I have heard claims of being noisy and the expense was not worth the net gain in distance....

Re: Rodbuilding stuff Ottawa-Gatineau

Welcome to Canada, you're gonna love it here. OK....if you need to ship product from the US the one shipper you want to try and avid is UPS. Great shipper, but they will screw the pants off of you with Brokerage Fees. I prefer to have USPS ship my packages when available. If you must use UPS please ...

Re: Off-season gear-up: looking for advice on baitcasters

For what most people consider "traditional" dropshotting yes, go with a spinning reel. My finesse D/S set up is a Dobyns Extreme HP 742 and Stadic Ci4+ spooled with 10lb Sufix 832 and Sufix fluorocarbon leaders in 5lb or 7lb. My other dropshotting techniqies use baitcasters and heavier gea...

Re: Balsa and other wood crankbaits - Who uses them?

Wood won't be popular until KVD promotes his new KVD Cedar Square Bill 1.5 and the KVD Cedar Jerk 106...... I have been spending the last several years bringing my crank bait collection up to date so to speak. I had gotten away from throwing cranks and jerks for a very long time and decided it was t...

Re: Balsa and other wood crankbaits - Who uses them?

Adam, I use them, more importantly Al Lindner uses them. I carry several beloved original Bagley's Fat Cats & and a deep diver, several balsa baits from Rapala, and several cedar baits I just love from the now defunct Stanford Cedar Lure Co. I like using wood and silent plastic cranks early and ...

Re: Salmon from Shore

It has been quite a long time since I fished NY state for salmon and trout, but my first stop in Pulaski was always Whitaker's Sport Store and Motel. https://whitakers.com/ One stop shopping from license to getting fully equipped if required. Great service and lots of up to date information. We alwa...

Re: rideau river virgin

I fish the river somewhat regularly, but have never fished that section.  Baits I bring to the river: Bring a spinnerbait, we all have our favorites but I like to have a white/white spinnerbait. Double willow will work, but so does a single Colorado. Keep it light, I prefer 3/8oz. on the river. Brin...
