This year the CANADIAN ICE FISHING CHAMPIONSHIP will have even more was to cash in. We have kept every thing just about the same as last year, but, have added a few rule changes and more money payout positions.

For you anglers who fished the 2007 CIFC, we suggest you familiarize yourselves with the new 2008 rules. For you anglers new to our programs, we suggest you read our “How the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship works (above) and familiarize yourselves with the new 2008 rules

NEW CHANGES FOR THE 2007 CANADIAN ICE FISHING CHAMPIONSHIP

DATES: Saturday February 23& Sunday February 24, 2008

IMPROVED: TAXI SERVICE SHUTTLE . Don’t have an ATV or Snowmobile? Get a ride out to the fishing zones in our taxi service shuttle. We can provide you with Ice Taxi shuttle to and from the fishing zone. Weekend pass $30.00 per person.

IMPROVED: This year the fishing zones will be well marked to insure exclusivity & security to the CIFC fishing zone.

IMPROVED: Eight professionally trained officials (Controllers) in the CIFC fishing zone, to score fish, provide security and to police rules and policies of the CIFC.

NEW: Only approved portable ice huts will be allowed to be used for the duration of the tournament. Examples of accepted configurations Clam, Trap, Frabill, Ice Cube,Glide Trax or other commercial portable huts. No wooden or lockable huts will be accepted.

Note: ALL CIFC anglers MUST have one 5 GALLON pail for keeping caught fish alive and an aerator (we will supply free aerators to the first registered100 teams). Each team should have two (2) five gallon pails.

Note: This year we will be changing our venue from shallow water day and deep water day to Perch Day and Big Fish Day.

Note: This year on Perch Day: teams will fish for fifteen (15) of the biggest perch they can catch in the time allotted to fish (8:am to 2:pm). At the end of the allotted time teams will bring their fifteen live perch to the weight in station. After weighting in the fishermen’s total weight will be converted into a point system to match the point system on Big Fish Day. Only Perch will be allowed to score on this day. Anglers can fish with one rod only on this day.

Big Fish Day: will be the same as in past years with 25 points for catching and 25 points for releasing a live fish, plus one point per inch. Only big fish will be scored on this day (white fish, all trout, walleye, bowfin and pike). Anglers can fish with two rods on this day.

FISHING PARTNERS CAN FISH TOGETHER (Must stay within 30 paces)

Rules for the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship 2008


1/ Registration will be limited to the first 150 teams registered.
All anglers must be at least 16 years old.

2/ Each day will consist of 6 hours fishing time unless changed due to weather conditions (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).

3/ Electronic sonar, cameras, and hydrographic maps can be used.

4/ All contestants are subject to inspection by official judges at check in and at any time, all motorized equipment and related equipment must be in safe and proper running order and all contestants must wear their CIFC identification badge at all times. (Ministry laws require you use a solid tow bar when pulling sleds, huts, etc on the ice)

5/ Contestants can fish anywhere within the designated fishing area.

6/ Contestants can fish with their partner; however partners can not fish any further than 30 paces apart.

7/ 50 feet / 15.24 meters must be kept between fishing contestants (hole to hole). The first angler at a spot has the right of way.

8/ All fishing contestants must abide by the Province of Ontario Fishing Laws and any special rules announced by the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship organizers.

9/ Contestants must fish within the marked-off / designated fishing area, and cannot leave the marked-off / designated fishing area during the contest hours.

10/ The winning teams will be decided by the most points earned during the two days of fishing based on the scoring system of the CIFC. If a tie in points occurs, the team with the most fish registered will win the Championship and First Prize money with the other team winning the Second Prize money. If a tie in points occurs with teams 2 nd to 10 th, the two or more teams will split the proceeds of the two or more positions. If a tie in points occurs with team’s 11 th to 20 th position, the two or more teams will be entered into a draw to determine their position.

11/ Live bait can be used and chumming is allowed.
No chumming prior to the commencement of the signal to start fishing.
No bait allowed in your hut, prior to the commencement of the signal to start fishing.
NEW: There are no limitations on the number of minnows allowed.

12/ Any fishing holes made by any contestant larger then 7 inches must mark it prior to leaving said hole. A small branch will do.

13/ Contestants will not be allowed to switch huts with any other contestants from another team.

14/ Only one line can be used with no more than four hooks on shallow water day and two lines on deep water day.

15/ Teams will consist of two anglers. No substitutions will be allowed after the Rules Meeting.

16/ No alcohol or drugs will be allowed in the fishing area.

17/ A FIVE GALLON PAIL PER ANGLER must be supplied by the contestants for every days fishing, and must be half full of water with an aerator for perch day.
(You will also need a bailing can to fill the bucket)
All contestants must have an official CIFC team number adhered to their pail (supplied by the CIFC).

18/ Only Commercial Portable Fish Huts that comply with fire rating laws may be used. Approved configurations include Clam, Eskimo, Otter Ice Hut, Eastman’s Ice Cube, Frabill, Cabela's Deluxe Ice Fishing Tent Kit , etc. Home built huts can
NOT be used. Contestants are required to open the access to their ice shelter immediately when asked by a controller(s).
Contestants MUST open the access to their ice shelter immediately at 3:00pm.

19/A BIG FISH DAY:

* All Trout, Ling, Pike, Whitefish, Walleye, and Bowfin will be scored 25 points for catching and 25 points for live release, plus one (1) point per inch.
* Only the for mentioned fish will be scored.
* Contestants MUST surrender the fish in their possession to the controller(s) when requested.

19/B PERCH DAY:

* Only Perch will be scored on this day.
* Teams will be allowed to weight in 15 perch only at the end of the competition.
* Weight-in score will be converted into a point system to match big fish day.
(This will be explained at rules night).
* Teams can have up to fifteen (15) perch in their possession.

20/ At least one member of the registered ice fishing team MUST attend the 7:00 pm Friday night rules meeting.

21/ All teams (2 members) must check in at the CIFC trailer for inspection, and verification prior to going on the ice.
All teams MUST check in at the CIFC trailer at the end of the competition each day. Failure to do so will cancel any points awarded that day.

22/ No AM/FM radios, stereos, audible devices, or pets allowed in or at the designated CIFC fishing areas. (Does not include Cell phones and hand held personal radios).

23/ Any unsportsmanlike conduct, unsafe acts or failure to adhere the tournament rules of the CIFC can result in disqualification and forfeiture of entry fee.

24/ NO trucks, cars or deemed highway automobiles to be used on the ice in the CIFC for any application.

25/ OFFICIAL PROTEST:

* Protests must pertain to specific rules violations.
* Competitors wishing to make an official protest must do so by reporting to the Tournament Director immediately before check in.
* A cash deposit of $50 dollars must accompany all protests.
* The deposit will only be refunded if the protest proves valid.
* Protests will be heard by the tournament director ONLY, at such time and in such manner as the tournament director determines.
* All decisions of the tournament director shall be final and binding.
* Failure to abide by the official protest procedures will forever bar the angler from making the protest.

26/ BIG FISH CONTEST:

* A Big Fish plaque and cash prize will be awarded to the largest LIVE qualified fish measured over the weekend.
* Anglers will sign up for the $20 pool only at registration.
* Moneys will be split between tying teams.

27/ Violators of any of the above mentioned CIFC rules shall be subject to:

* A/ a -25 point ticket, (25 points will be deducted from your final score).
* B/ disqualification and forfeiture of entry fee.

28/All decisions of the tournament director shall be final and binding.

29/ No vehicles are allowed in the fishing area.

30/ Anglers are responsible for counting their own fish.
Any fish turned in over the (MNR) legal limit will have their score deducted by the fish score times the number of fish.

31/ Teams MUST! Confirm there Saturdays scores at the CIFC meeting place prior to 9:00pm, and prior to 5:00pm on the Sunday.
Teams who do not confirm their scores prior to the for mentioned times will accept the scores allotted by the CIFC officials.
